Google Drive triples free storage to 15GB

Google Drive's capacity to store your files will jump by a factor of three, the company said Monday, rising from 5GB to 15GB.

Google made the announcement just before Google I/O developers conference begins this week. The changes will "roll out over the next couple of weeks," Google said in a blog post.

It seems it's not quite as generous as that article makes it sound. From the Google blogpost:
So instead of having 10 GB for Gmail and another 5 GB for Drive and Google+ Photos, you’ll now get 15 GB of unified storage for free to use as you like between Drive, Gmail, and Google+ Photos.
Still, if you have a lot of photos and not many emails (for instance) it's still a good thing.

    Very good !

15GB is quite fair for a free service.

And if you house burns to the ground it most likely destroys your 4 Terabytes of storage at home. My sisters house just burned about a week ago....was a total loss.

Sure, 15GB isn't 15TB, but if you could have stored 15GB worth of digital pictures, or personal files....you might have found that not a whole that really matters was destoyed. I don't really care so much if 3 seasons of Game of Thrones wouldn't have fit.

I don't think that the hard drive and his state of the art PC will even matter to him if his house burned down to the ground. Bigger picture.

I see the bigger picture. In my sisters case, all 4 family members survived. They lost their garage, house, pets and both cars. But it would also be nice to have backup copies of your entire digital picture history. Those cannot be recreated. But unlike physical photos and negatives, can be backed up.
