So if I try to install XP again on one of my notebooks after 8 Apr 2014, it won't install?

On another note, why does the US use month/day/year instead of day/month/year?

It'll install, but you won't get any new security updates (or updates of any kind) after April 14th, 2014. Windows Update will continue to work for some time pushing existing updates, but that will stop eventually as well.

It's not just High-End Plotting and Architectural systems, but Automotive as well - You know those racks they have in the auto shops? Well those have a small Dell Workstation to control the hydraulics. Even brand new Lifts are sold with these Old Dell Blue-Gray flat Boxes, dedicated systems, made with XP cos it WORKS.

These systems will not be made with Windows 8 - They MAY be made with 7 in them.

Sorry about that, I was being sarcastic about the countdown.

Microsoft reintroduces the Windows 8 Tablet PC again with THEIR own Surface tablets running an OS of which its UI is a similar talking point to xp's.
The difference is XP lasted a heck of a long time.

No idea, it seems to confuse even the yanks.

Saw a clip where the interviewer asked Americans , when did the 9/11 attacks happen.

All kinds of weird answers, like October.

That's because we have our share of idiots. As to the date format, it was the standard in England when this continent was being colonized, the same way the imperial measurement system was. We still officially use both of these less-common (at least as far as the rest of the world goes) to this day, although it's slowly becoming more common to see metric in measurements in certain things, as well as the more standardized ISO 8601 way of writing dates. Also, as globalization has had an impact on business, a lot of us who work in cross-global organizations have learned to use ISO dates and metric measurements.

I have plenty of nasty things to say about how MS handled the release and configuration of Windows 8...however this is tempered by the fact that a for profit business was considerate enough to keep XP humming along for all these years. Essentially XP owners that bought their OS in 2001 have had FREE support (via updates for almost 13 years now.

This is why I will favor MS over the stupid fruit company. Of course their "geniuses" seem to lose their touch once they put their fingers on something non-Apple...

Witness SVP "genius" Ron Johnson...the now former CEO of JC Penny's . The thick headed and arrogant MBA thought that he could force the customer to bend to his will alone. LOL The customers quickly sent him and the iconic company a very expensive lesson.

The benevolence of how MS handed XP (at their expense) is the one thing that keeps me willing to wait for MS to come to their senses, and put Windows 8 right by offering the customer the default option to boot straight to the desktop.
That being said I have started using Linix Mint which is very good.

The main reason XP had such a long life was because of its corporate penetration. When Microsoft announced that it was dropping support for XP a few years ago, it caused a mighty backlash from the corporate world, so Microsoft gave XP a life extension to allow time for corporations to transition to Windows 7. Consumer concerns didn't enter into this decision.
