I don't find Apple's OSs to be friendly at all. I think they are limiting, suffocating, simplistic and dumbed down. The IPad for example is a great device for children, or people who are computer illiterate, but I don't know what on earth I'd do with one, it cant do anything. The computer/tech culture has been dumbed down a lot. I think that's sad. I like stuff that's complicated and different. I like my Surface, because its different. I like that I'm still discovering new things about the OS months in. I think Microsoft built an OS for smart people. I guess that probably WAS an error in our current environment.

And no, I'm not saying you're stupid if you don't like 8, so please don't infer that.

I don't agree, I think it's as simple or as complex as you want it to be, just like Windows. I can dumb down my Desktop AND Metro to the same point you are saying as well as I can complicate my MACOS Dock and Desktop. Plus I use four different desktops in MACOS, each with the aliases I want. But I can always take a screenshot of my brother's i7 Mountain Lion Titanium Tower, which looks like those busy desktop's MDMD was posting images of. And he does a LOT of complex Musical recording, mixing, mastering and even his artwork on it. The same programs that I use for Music, he has on his machine, plus access to plugins that are not even made for Windows.

I'll say this - Apple's move to Intel processors was the biggest mistake they ever made, and the only mistake they ever made. I've never seen a G4 or G5 whole screen White Out like it does with Intel Macs, or Windows Vista through 8. White Out, happens to me all the time, happens on Macs with Mountain Lion, happens only on Intel Processors.

As far as Windows 8, I like the Desktop and I like the Speed. I don't like a bunch of other stuff. I'm only learning now what I can disable and what I can't, cos they installed this automatic repair system that cannot be interrupted once begun lest you want to damage your drive. I don't like that it takes that repair system an inordinately long amount of time to run with little or no progress report.

I don't like the lack of good Apps in the Metro store. Other than that, I like it, I'm USING it, ain't I?

No, it's different factors. Retailers were part of it as it seems they aren't training their staff properly about Windows 8.

Microsoft didn't have a navigation tutorial after the OOBE screen to show how to ACTUALLY use the new Windows.

Some people still have a rigid notion about what a PC is and how to interact with it.

OEMs continued to release Windows 7 PCs with Windows 8 and MANY still lack touch screens to ACTUALLY use the new Windows nicely. That, as well as tablets that are ipad designed devices, not Surface Pro like tablet PCs that are SO much more useful than a simple tablet design such as the ipad.

Speaking of apps, this youtube client app from Windows Phone 8 was just recently released on Windows 8, VERY nice! Although I would rather see them use screen estate better. It's called MetroTube. THE BEST youtube client app I've ever used on ANY platform, and that is an understatement, at least on Windows Phone.

That's a good YooToob app - But one thing I worry about, are these 3rd Party apps that connect to my Facebook etc accounts - I basically don't trust em. My icloud/me.com email address is being inundated with unmitigated SPAM. The only thing I have done recently is install several of these questionable apps, I think the spam originates from one of these. It's hard to tell which one, cos I really don't know yet which apps are truly legit.

Don't those apps ask you for that information? Usually, the more "legit" apps will ask for your location if you allow, your music library, or your network. Unless if you voluntarily sign into a facebook account, that shouldn't be happening. I would imagine...

How about the fact that ms made an os that most people don't want, don't like and/or don't need.. Exactly where does that figure into the equation...

Now, explain to me exactly how they have learned so little, and seem poised to repeat/compound the error with blue....

    I don't think you're being melodramatic enough.

Most people are sheeps. They will use whatever OS that is preloaded on their system when they bought it. Only a hand full will either love it or hate it.

Facebook Pro and several other not-made-by-facebook Tiles do this very thing. I made the error of signing in once, I logged out as quick as I could. Once I find out they are safe, I'll use them again. I need to know more. A Truly Legit app would use my Skydrive account, which is connected to a lot of the services I use. One "Word Doc Reader" actually was UPLOADING my private Word Docs up to some unnamed website! Why would a Word READER need to upload my files somewhere?

I am positive that at least one of my Windows 8 Metro apps is an unmitigated Virus

?? No, it's not the retailers (nor the users or pc manufacturers), it's Windows 8 that didn't do Windows 8 any favors!

Or put another way, Microsoft didn't do Windows 8 any favors.
