BUILD 2013: Microsoft to Launch Both Windows Blue and Surface 2

Rumor has it that Microsoft is planning to use the BUILD developer conference next month to introduce two new important products, namely the Windows Blue upgrade and the next-generation Surface tablet.

As compared to previous Windows iterations, the Windows Blue Start button would only allow users to launch the Start Screen and might not open a Start Menu.

I for one will not be buying any M$ products if this is true. Hello Mint.

MS is really busy releasing these things, but I wish they would focus on one product and get it right and then move from there. Flooding the market with MS software and products isn't very smart.

Like it or not but they have to have the start button. Most users are not computer savvy and need the training wheels. Remember, businesses who use Windows everyday. If you're going to ask then to start from scratch then they might as well make the jump to another operating system.

You're right. All those surface tablets and versions of Windows 8 on the market are threatening to drown my ankles!

Jump to what? MacOS? Linux? Android?

A switch to macOS would require even more training and cause more headaches than win8. If you think people are lost now with no start button, wait till you see the look on their face when they are forced to use macOS.

Linux is 1337 system. A call for support will get 'you're too stupid to use Linux, go kill yourself' as a response from tech support.

    Android ain't got no balls.

That leaves a few other poorly supported OSes.

And most business software were written for windows.

I wish your business the best of luck in switching. Tell us how it goes.

I never said those were easier options. What I am saying is if W8 makes it hard to use (which they made hard by changing so rapidly and explaining so little) then what's stopping a company from looking at their iphone and their ipad on their desk and saying "lets just switch to Mac"?

    A button?

    A button!

    Classic Shell:
    Welcome to Classic Shell

    I believe goodintentions is right.

You miss just a tiny button that is replaced by a Screen (but the rest works just like in Win7) and that's why you want to switch to Mac...

    But I don't believe you'll actually switch.

We always have to go off-topic with this discussions do we...

You guys need to calm down. I'm not switching to Mac. I don't run a company looking to switch OS.
    Chill.

However. My company's IT dept has said there is no way we are switching to W8.

Does anyone here feel like MS has done a good job selling or explaining W8?? Instead MS feels like people will adopt it because they have no choice. But they do.

I won't be switching OS because of Windows 8 UI. I will switch OS because M$ attitude toward there customers is a pile of monkey dung next they will be charging $1000.00 per hour for support then they will charge by the hour for desktop use and the list goes on.
If they can get away with the slap in the face start button going to metro what is next?

    Sorry. Chill here.

It's a normal reaction you have to the switch to 8. I also flipped out the first days.
But now I get along quite well in the new UI... don't like metro entirely but it does a good job when needed.

Your company's decision is a logical one and they're not the only ones to skip 8: Why buy newer licenses when Win7 will be there to stay for some time...

    Cheers!
