Sorry Microsoft, but consumers just don't like you....

"Look at Google, for example, which has faced plenty of accusations over privacy concerns in recent years, and is now dealing with numerous investigations over possible anti-competitive behavior. Consider Apple too, which had to deal with the iPhone 4 'Antennagate furor and the embarrassingly poor quality Maps app. Yet in these instances, and others, consumers have quickly moved beyond these companies’ controversies, and returned to faithfully buying their products in the millions.

But consumers seem to have curiously long memories when it comes to Microsoft. The company’s frequent brushes with antitrust regulators, and its monolithic and often arrogant reputation, remain etched in the broader consumer consciousness as an affirmation that Microsoft is the big, evil conglomerate attempting to control and manipulate its way to the top. It’s perhaps fair to say that few consumers would articulate their impressions of Microsoft with specific reference to its anti-competitive actions of yesteryear, but fewer still would have kind words to say about what the company has since become if ‘antitrust’ and ‘Microsoft’ were uttered in the same sentence (...) Perhaps the only major Microsoft brand that consumers have any strong, positive emotional connection with is Xbox. For years, the company kept it at arm’s length from the rest of its operations, with only limited references to its Microsoft lineage, evidently recognizing that drawing a connection between the two might do more harm than good. More recently, Microsoft has seen the value of the equity it has built in the Xbox brand, giving the console’s dashboard a Metro-style update, and rebranding and integrating its entertainment services into its phone and PC offerings."

I find it so odd how people are quick to bad mouth Windows than anything. Over the years, I'm come across people that are just so indifferent to Windows and have such odd ideas about it. Like for example, a year ago someone told me they didn't like Windows because they release a new version like every year. False. When I was telling a friend about how awesome my Windows Phone is, he said, "Oh Windows is everything, they put it on everything." It also seems some people think Windows is the ACTUAL company, not Microsoft. Kind of idiotic I find...

Yet, Xbox does amazingly well even though it has had a lot of Red Ring of Death issues in the later years of the 360's release. Microsoft updates the UI of Xbox pretty often, but yet no hate against it. It's actually been the top selling console for close to two years straight. The Surface tablets interestingly enough, the few people I know who have one, have NOTHING to say about it other than praise. LITERALLY. I was actually quite surprised and glad about that, considering some here do nothing but bad mouth it and call it, "Meh."

And there was mention in the article about people moving on past Microsoft (Windows) onto other platforms such as android and ios. That's where the plight is I see for OEMs. People can do much on their phablets as their PCs, some can't obviously. But this is where the issue comes, a three hundred dollar android tablet or ipad mini sounds better than a touch netbook with Windows 8 for about 400 or so dollars, EVEN though it is a much better value and offer and deal. This is where Windows RT should really shine, or at least Windows 8.1 with it's rumored support for smaller screen sizes along with Intel saying 200 dollar Atom based tablets are possible very soon. Actually, I'm thinking that the lack of tablet PCs out in physical electronic retailers is doing some lack of charm to Windows 8. That's where Windows 8 shines real nicely, but the OEM tablet PCs aren't there yet. They have to adapt to that, seeing as again, people can use an android or ios tablet for their daily needs. KEY PHRASE there.

There are certain people out there that CANNOT work or live without a PC especially without Windows. I cannot. I am a media junkie and Windows is the platform to support those needs. I am a Photoshop and CAD user, Windows is the platform for those needs. Along with Office of course...I'd hate to use LibreOffice or whatever meh software is out there like that.

You can't blame people for having their own preferences. Some say "8 is GR8!!!" and some say "I H8 8!!!".
It's like you hating the mouse. While I hate touchscreens. End of discussion.

I don't necessarily hate the mouse, it's just not that ideal for me to use anymore.

The other product that got a lot of positve feedback was Office. And now they are trying to muck that up too.
