Microsoft targets end of May for expanded Surface Pro

Microsoft is broadening availability of its Surface Pro PC/tablet hybrids during May and June, officials are saying.

Surface Pro will launch before the end of May in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. It will launch in Korea, Malaysia, Russia, Singapore, and Thailand before the end of June, according to an April 23 post on the Surface Blog.

    Hi there
Will really love to see these out in the flesh -- Unlike a lot I think this device will actually sell very well indeed -- I hope the docking facilities will also be good enough for this to replace a portable PC -- we shall see.

    Cheers

^^ What are you talking about? The surface is not a hybrid. It's a tablet with a touch cover. It's impossible to work with it like a laptop. I already tried it. If they wanted the surface to be more successful, they should have made it a real hybrid, not the touch cover that falls apart in the first month.

What are you talking about? I've had and used it perfectly fine for almost the past 3 months.

Because you fail at use, it doesn't mean everyone does.

My point is the surface isn't a hybrid. It's a tablet with a touch cover. If you put a saddle on a duck, it doesn't make it a horse.

A hybrid is a machine that can act either as a laptop or a tablet. It's gotta have a minimum behavior such as being able to sit on your lap while you work. No, adding a bluetooth keyboard won't make it a hybrid.

It's not something that appeals to me, not at that price anyway. Nice specs for the pro but at that price range some people, like me, are just going to buy a full sized laptop.

    Hi there
from the only models I've seen of the surface pro - there isn't any reason at all why it can't be used as a PC given a sensible docking station with a PROPER monitor, a DECENT keyboard and a mouse.

Then when used like this why isn't it exactly like a PC. How many people actually have a laptop on their laps at work anyway.

I think the stupid Ms supplied extra keyboard that you could get for the device deserves a one way trip to the garbage can -- that IS a POS. Nothing to stop you using a decent proper wireless keyboard and mouse with the device when docked.

For the rest the Ms surface pro looks like a nice piece of kit albeit a bit expensive -- however now the economy seems to be gradually inching (or should I say micro milli-metering) its way out of recession some people might buy these as " trendy nice boys toys" - after all expensive Apple products never stopped people who liked that type of kit from buying incredibly expenisve gear.

    Cheers

We have a Surface Pro at work and a coworker bought a Surface Pro last week. Originally, the thought was to take our company Surface Pro and give it to her to use as she goes to and from school and use it as her everyday work machine to replace her laptop. She has a monitor, keyboard and mouse. Ultimately, she elected against using it as an everyday machine because we all use dual displays, and the 10" on the Surface Pro was just too small for everyday. Thus, she bought a Surface Pro personally to take to and from school and will remain with her work laptop for everything else.

    LOL and a half!

The more I read about the Surface, especially from you Pros, the more I'm learning that it's probably not going to fit my needs. It may be fine, powerful, and useful for some, but bottom line it's about screen size for me. I need to view blueprints. I just don't see me doing that on such a small screen.

I haven't seen one personally, for no one in town has displayed one yet. I'll have to get closer to the big city to see.

My boss bought the Pro to replace his work laptop, easier and lighter to take to customers offices. He bought a little BT keyboard and mouse, I have to say it works great as a laptop replacement. Once we got the VPN up and running he can take it anywhere and be able to pull up result files with little effort. He bought the Samsung model with 11" screen and it has cell service as well as wifi. Nice little machine.... A bit pricey for me personally, but a nice little machine none the less
