Or Microsoft. In a museum that is. You can read all about it on your Apple Devices.

You can only ever sell what people want to buy, and right now thats not Windows 8, and there is no absolutely no confusion outside of Redmond or yourself as to why. Right now Microsoft is in the OUR WAY psychology of Ballmer.. not just on this, but with the XBOX, and the 'you need continual internet to run a game' crap, and they will keep getting their teeth kicked in by consumers.

    Why not?

My 3.1 install still runs just fine, and with Office 4.3, is reasonably 'productive' as well.

It can still easily do 'real' work. As can my NT4 install.

OSes don't just curl up and die on the say-so of MS or the whims of an increasingly gullible
    and PC-illiterate public.

    Wenda.

Come on is it really that hard of a choice. XP is dead, and the next progression is Win 7. If I was running a business it would be obvious that Win 8 is not really for any business regardless of it size. The jump from XP to 7 really isn't going to be that big of a deal when it comes to training. In fact both are in reality close to each other as far as Menu, Desktop, File Explorer, and 7 offers some really good security along with great stability. So if you cannot find your way to use 7 then go with one of the free Linux Distros, and the great and wonderful freeware available in the wild. . .
You missed my point. As a software vendor, we have to ensure our software works on all supported versions of Windows. And Microsoft still officially supports XP. This also means we have to keep machines and vms around to test and try to duplicate what customers report. So, the more and more OS versions and releases come out, the more this becomes bigger and bigger and tasks more time, resources, etc.
No, did understand what you were getting at; been there. Back in 1992 the company I worked for at the time decided to make the jump from a closed Wang system to Windows server, and Windows 3.11 along with Microsoft Office along with access. It took us almost a year to rewrite (and another to get all the buds out) all the software (mail, data bases, etc.) that would be required to run a 2.1 billion dollar a year business which moved over 15,000,000 bills of freight a year. So, I am glad it is you and not me who has to do it, enjoy. . .

    Vista and Win7

This another repeat of a lot of useless discussions.

Some say Windows 8 is the future - others say Windows 8 sucks.

I suggest we wait and see what the future brings - the present sucks.

    Hi there
Even HDD's were not very common and hugely expensive. Even had you managed to get some sort of DVD hardware at the time the Video cards and screens available wouldn't have been able to play any sort of video -- so unfortunately the answer is NO to video on Windows release 1.

Windows 3.11 might be a different proposition -- certainly in a VM -- haven't got the time to mess around with it but I'm sure SOMEONE on the forum will try it.

WFW (Word for Windows) and EXCEL still run perfectly OK on Windows 3.11 BTW.

    Cheers
