Windows 8′s market share finally surpasses desktop Linux

After gaining just 0.4% of the PC market in February, Windows 8 positively exploded in March, gaining another 0.5% of the market — an astronomical growth rate of almost 20%. This means that Windows 8 now commands no less than 3.1% of the PC market — a comfortable distance ahead of desktop Linux. To celebrate, many manufacturers are cutting the price of Windows RT tablets.

    I like this part.

what we’ve seen so far — a better Metro control panel, more app snapping options — aren’t exactly killer features. Or, rather, maybe they are — in the sense that they’ll kill Windows.

So we're expecting Windows to be ONLY on the desktop and somewhat on the laptop that can possibly be replaced with a phablet? I find THAT, atrocious. What we need less are people that are stuck in the year 2000 thinking Windows is meant for the desktop PC and realize that in 2002, xp made it onto the tablet form factor before anyone. Times have changes and tablets are the mainstream, and it's a hassle to keep two devices: a laptop and a phablet. It's pointless to have such because it's "proper" for touch to be only on a tablet or smartphone. If that were the way, Windows will be obsolete not due to a new UI, but due to an old one. A Windows that has adapted to change and adapted to the zeitgeist of the technological times can't adapt to touch? I find that hard to believe.

But then again, certain people are hard to believe...

What is atrocious is poeple who think that desktop PCs will disapear, that the mouse will disapear, that we will all be with palm-piloted devices and no real computers anymore.
Everybody ask me "why don't you buy a laptop?!" as I stick with my old tower PC. Because my vision of computering is to use a computer, not a portable gadget in lieu of of a computer.
When I'll need to travel with a computer or a semi=advanced device, I'll buy one. But the point is, in my case, I must need it before I buy it.
So Coke, the point is that Windows™ should also work on PCs.
