Microsoft launches special Chinese version of Surface Pro

Microsoft is hoping to build momentum behind its Surface Pro tablet in China by launching a special edition including Office Home & Student 2013—but with Windows 8 Standard, rather than Windows 8 Pro.

Microsoft’s Surface Pro 128 GB version goes on sale in the country this Tuesday. But along with it, the U.S. tech giant is also releasing an exclusive “Surface China Edition,” with an x86 processor like its Pro cousin, the company announced.

Right.. Because government created and run operating systems/software always turn out well. Granted, its running on the Linux Kernel, but still :>. I can allready see the killswitches they're devising for these systems hah. Are they also going to dictate that the people must transition? China is a fun country, not as wacky as North Korea, but close!

How long before they also announce their own mobile operating system iSpyU, which is basically a mod of Android? :>

Partly I agree with the highlighted statement, our National Broadband Network implementation is a classic example of why governments should never try and run a business venture, more so when it involves ever evolving/advancing technology.

China does what China does, but if nothing else, it will provide Linux (especially Ubuntu) with some serious lift in the OS space. What it develops and learns from the Chinese venture will flow to the western world as well.

As far as a Chinese mobile phone OS: China's Huawei Says It Is Working On Its Own Mobile OS as a Backup.
