It is interesting to go back only a few years to 3Q 2010 and compare the mobile numbers. Symbian (Nokia) was still the biggest player in those days and we know what happened to them because they did not make the right moves.

At that time, MS mobile did not even show up - it was buried in 'Other' with a very small number. And my guess would be that this is still going to continue until they build up a credible apps store. Nice looking tile alone will not cut it.

Windows phone rising, sorta, kinda, maybe, well, just a little bit:

Windows Phone sees big gains at the expense of BlackBerry and Symbian

Yeah, RIM and Symbian really got beat up. But Android is really top dog now. Maybe the joint ventures of MS and Nokia can change it a bit. Nokia desperately needs some success.

Today is sponsored by the word Trifecta.

Once the concept of an OS across multiple devices in conjunction with Windows phone 8 they'll be gaining more market shares for sure. It'll take time.

Yes, and in that time Android, iOS or even Ubuntu will have things sown up.

92% of desktop PCs have Windows on them. Are you understanding that they lost OS share because of mobile devices? Hardly anyone wanted 7 (or previous) on a touch centric mobile device. No Start Screen. They will with 8.

When I turn on my Android phone guess what I see? A home screen. There are 7 screens to slide to in total. When one boots up the iPad guess what they see? You guessed it. Same with iPhone.

What's a mother to do to get into the game? Once this concept of 8 across multiple devices in conjunction with Windows phone is understood they'll gain shares.

Don't worry, it won't take any diseases like trifecta.

It is inevitable - the result of a monopoly.
