Just how much do people hate Windows 8?

My $0.02. I won't spend money "upgrading" my existing machines to 8. However, with a new machine, i went with Windows 8. I added a few things to get it to work as I wanted. With a start menu, and a shutdown on the start menu I'm perfectly fine with 8. It runs quickly and boots very fast, even on an SSD, it's faster. The new UI can go suck an egg though, I don't mesh with any of the new apps, the charms bar, etc. I don't want full screen apps. I don't need apps for things like facebook and wikipedia. Websites get the job done for me.

Rather funny, but doesn't relate. Rating is not a survey of questions. One simply rates it 1 through 5. The statistics were collected and presented. Numbers don't lie.

Exactely. I don't think anybody "hate" it. After all what we "may hate" can be easily fixed.
What we hate is the direction, the attitude, the philosophy and what's advertised etc.... but better read the criticism before saying "they said the same thing for XP and Vista", "poeple don't like change" and stuffs.

Anyway I would never give credit to Amazon ratings or the likes. Basing a "study" on such ratings is not what I would qualify as scientific. I'm not saying it's false, just that it's not telling much of interrest. And a 51% aproval rating is pretty bad, IMO. So I don't know how he concludes that W8 is more popular than we think... Did we think that bad?

Most computers in the world use Windows.
People get freaked out by radical change.
But after a while, they calm down.

People probably think that they USED to be able to change colors of things & use Outlook Express as mail client & other familiar features.
    Which are now not available.
I think most of the dislike is because of this.

In the end I think people will find tweaks & workarounds & forget their grumpiness & get on with their computing experience.

    ( Until Windows 9 ! )
I don't think that is going to work this time. Vista was never accepted until the changes were made (through the Vista SP1 called Windows 7).

    Win7 was actually Vista SP3.

    Numbers don't lie.
That's what you say when you like the result.

They can very easily be badly gathered, and misinterpreted.

It means little on it's own.

Respondents are self selecting - not everyone who has bought it replies.

Net Applications has a different result - 8 still behind the take up rate of Vista, in spite of the staggering advertising spend and very low intro pricing of 8.

And the acceptance numbers they show are for PC, Surface pro, Surface RT and phones - all thrown into 1 pot. I would like to see the PC nums broken out. Then we can compare with the previous systems.

What would also be interesting is to see how many systems came bundled with PCs and how many stand alone licenses were sold.

Hopefully we get some better insight with the MS 1Q 2013 financial report.

Why do people keep saying that you need to learn to use Windows 8?

It's as easy as pie to use, but most here who criticise Windows 8 simply don't like the way that it's been implemented. They don't like the fact that you have to use third party programs to make it work like you want. They don't like the way that Windows appears to be heading.
