    If anything, the most on the Desktop will be UI touch ups that Microsoft didn't oddly do before RTM, as in removing Aero icons from the Desktop and replace them with metro styled ones such as in Office 2013 with the fluidness of the UI of 2013. This I want to see as Aero design on the Desktop and metro design on the Start Screen kind of does make a legacy/modern clash when it should be all around a modernly designed UI. Aero design is kind of gross from a design perspective....

    Honestly, the desktop is just about perfected, it would be counter-productive on Microsoft's side if they didn't work on the metro style.

    I think Metro can turn into something great, If they know where to go with it and where to stop.

    No, they're not removing the Desktop. They can't, Blue is more of a move to provide a somewhat seamless transition off of it. There will be a PC Settings panel with more, PC settings. There is a rumored File Explorer app. IE 11 is improving on Downloads list and some other things. Apparently Microsoft is changing app snap to 50/50 although it should be more like an active adjust with the 50/50 snap. Once Office and the rest of the system apps get to be a good modern metro equivalent of the Desktop, that's basically that. Five to 10 years I give it for this to happen. The Desktop will probably remain in later versions in certain Pro editions of Windows to have the legacy UI. By then, a lot should be in the metro design and modern environment so that the average person won't need that legacy UI.

    Hi there
    @Coke Robot

    Metro style apps is NOT the way of the future --even with TWO apps concurrently.

    How do you suggest in future translating several documents into a 3rd / 4th language without being able to see them ALL concurrently, compare several web sites, compose presentations which need embedded objects such as spread sheets, multi-media, other documents etc.

    Whether it's called The Desktop, Metro, or the My Grandmothers Cat interface is irrelevant -- but what is 100% certain is that MANY applications will STILL require the ability to show multi windows CONCURRENTLY. How that interface will be called in future I don't know and care even less but the current name of WINDOWS seems to suggest that Windowing applications will still be an important part of the OS.

    The Two screen approach to metro seems also HALF BAKED -- we need RE-SIZABLE and MULTI Windows -- and I don't really care whether the application is launched via the Start screen or an Old fashioned menu.

    I'm scared!

    Seriously. Especially after seeing some screenshots here above...

    But still I'm curious how all desktop programs would work in the new environment, without the desktop. (seems unbelievable indeed)
