Of course people still use the command line, and they will continue to use the desktop for a long time as well. But that doesn't mean touch interfaces won't become the primary method of interacting with the computer. If you really think metro is no different from previous, outdated touch interfaces, I suggest you use it for more than 5 minutes. Give it a shot. It has an intuitive quality to it that you don't see pretty much anywhere else. It needs to be filled out for sure, because it's very lacking, but the basics are all there. It's time to look at the potential and quit being focused on the past.
I have no doubt that touch will not become the primary method of interacting with a computer, unless the human body evolves so that arms become 4'-5' long and fingers (at least a few) become thin and pointed.

For your 'edumacation', I've been using Windows 8 since it came on sale (and tried the pre-versions), I detest the new interface and use Classic Shell to completely avoid that abortion of an interface. I do not want to work with two 24" mobile phone screens (in landscape mode) when using my computer. There is no future for the new interface on a desktop, it died at birth but Microsoft doesn't realise it.
You know, you can interact with metro using a mouse, right? Again, try it for more than 5 minutes.

Do you really believe that I haven't used it fully? I don't criticise thing about which I know nothing. I have used the mouse with that interface extensively, it's the only way to interact with a non-touch dual monitor setup. The interface simply sucks.

Without the likes of Classic Shell, Windows 8 is an abortion, neither fish or fowl. If you want to have one or more of the apps, such as weather, news etc visible on one screen, while working on the desktop on another, you can't. It's full screen only for apps and only on the main screen where you want the desktop. You can't move anything around, you can't multi-task whatsoever.

What cretin thought up a system like this for a desktop that's supposed to be Windows (plural)?

I'm talking about the currently available interface, and what it should have provided, as is everyone else (except you).

Until we know exactly what the update will provide and how, it's all supposition. Your arguments become more ludicrous every day.

You arguments aren't relevant to me.

You cannot open say the weather app, in a user defined size, on one screen and a desktop program in another in Windows 8.

Well, when I am doing all my graphics tooling, spreadsheet work and word processing, there is zero space for weather or news windows. I am working. If I want to know the weather or news, I will take a 5 second flip to the app then zoom back in a millisecond. If I want to read a news article, I don't need my spreadsheet on the same page. Market status can also be picked up with a metro app and examined then flipped back to the desk to work. If one has special needs, then special software will be needed.

We can agree to disagree with preferences. As another advocate stated, they prefer to have all desktop work launched and run from the desktop. Never leaving the desktop is key to many. I really am not in that camp.

Don't some Linux distros have multi desktops? I think one has 6 desktops available.
From my point of view, flipping to an immersive app is no different than going to another page.
