Windows Blue - small look at leaked build 9364

  1. #131

Has there been any reports of a general idea when Blue might be released. Also if blue is going to pretty much be a giant upgrade of windows 8. I do not think that people with windows 8 should have to pay. Especially so soon after just buying a completely new OS. By the time people will be paying for Blue they won't even be used to 8. This is completely unnecessary. Also If you are going to have to pay for Blue are only people who do not have Windows 8 pro? Or for everyone?

No one knows for sure, those details may get leaked soon. All that is know that it should hit preview release during /build 2013 this summer and RTMed in the fall. Blue is a giant update to Windows, Windows Phone, Office (on a separate cycle), Bing, Outlook.com and everything else that got refreshed this past year from Microsoft. There is an expectation that people that bought Windows 8 may get it for free for a certain window of time, but it will probably be a paid update afterwards, just like a new OS basically.

    Expectation by whom, you?

It'll be free if you have a copy of Windows 8, just like the Service Packs. Doesn't really work any other way.

Yeah.... No one knows at this point, that's why I said there's an expectation, not certainty.

I'm guessing it will be a free upgrade for Windows 8 users and a paid version for clean install.

    Let's wait to see !

Right. If you don't have the op sys, you'll simply buy v8.1. I'm glad i got my copy of 8 Pro for $15(another $15 for the DVD). One of these days i'll get around to actually installing lol.

If you want Windows Sidebar back in Blue here's the way to go !

Gadgets for Windows 8 doesnt install even in compatibility mode, but the original Vista Sidebar does. There's a program called Windows Server 2008 Converter that installs it with a mouse click. If someone is interested it can be found in my Google Docs folder.

Oh, these are the screenshots I took to share.

50/50 app snap!!! OOHHH! This should had been already like this!

This one is the Black High Contrast theme, I thought it looked nice.

I REALLY like the Task Manger in black! If the High Contrast theme didn't turn the internet to High Contrast as well, I'd be using it right now. I'd like to see someone build a nice theme like this but a little more smoother, and doesn't make the internet do that as well.

I also noticed, something that no one as mentioned yet, is on the Desktop. There are a few different window animations. For example, when a small popup window opens, it does a pop to appear, like a quick grow and pop. It's interesting. It does the reverse when you close. Basically, it doesn't fade away like in 8 or 7 or vista, so no Aeroness. Also, the window minimize animation is less Aero-like. It's the same, but just no fade. So the window shrinks down as it would with 8, 7, and vista, but just no fade. It's odd and interesting....

You can tell this is a build in progress as the baby tiles can't be moved around when they've been made baby size. You can't hit Customize, and move them around at all. You have to put them back to normal size, move them around, and shrink them. It's tedious Tetris basically.

I think I have more screenshots to show.... I'll go and find them on my other drive.

Could be they don't like it and are getting some relief from 3rd party fixes.

They aren't using it the way MS intended.

It's probably not that easy or obvious to many how to return/upgrade 8.
    Hi there
I'm not quite sure what you mean by "Using it in the way Ms intended". I'm sure Ms hasn't a CLUE about how for example people use a laptop out in the field monitoring gases coming out of a partially active but dormant Volcano or analysing sediment / rock strata from a Test well on an Oil Rig.

Ms doesn't need to know exactly HOW people use Windows on their machines -- so long as these machines are LICENSED for Windows.

Of course Ms has discussions with manufacturers about some aspects of hardware such as in how to write drivers etc -- but one of the benefits of Windows 8 (a follow on to the methods implemented first in Vista and then in W7) is that Ms has published a decent set of API's so manufacturers just need to ensure their devices make the appropriate calls to the Windows API and perform whatever the application needs to do with the response from Windows.

Ms isn't in the Oil business or Volcanology for example but that doesn't mean Windows can't be used in these areas.

Windows isn't only used in a "conventional workplace" using a standard workstation -- which is one reason why XP is still around after all these years as the gear I'm talking about is very expensive and specialized -however by providing far better "Modularity" in the API it will become a lot easier for these specialized applications to use more modern Windows versions.

    Cheers

No disrespect. referring to Vrosa's post. I have seen examples of desktops with even more shortcuts, so no problem. But those icons are using resources. When a user gets that deeply into using desktop shortcuts, I have to ponder on why they prefer that to the modern screen?
