Core Windows 8 Apps Set for Update?

Tipped off by a reader, I checked my System log in Event Viewer today and what did I find but a stack of pending updates for all of the core apps in Windows 8. I’m not 100 percent sure this is what I think it is. But if we’re right, it looks like 18 of the core apps in Windows 8 are about to get updated. Or, almost all of them.

Thanks for the tip! So, does anyone know how to search the Windows Event Logs (as described in the Source article)?

See here: Microsoft Windows 8 Event Viewer

Thank you for the link to the article; however, I could not locate what I was hoping to find. Specifically, the personu from the "source" article made it sound so simple to just search for the phrase "installation ready" and see the results. Now, I did see where your article gives examples on how to screen/filter the event logs using "power shell." So, is that what you were specifically referring to in that article? Thanks again.

Hello,

Well, from what I understand, apparently, just because something is listed in the Event Viewer does not necessarily mean that it is scheduled for an update. It could also be the case that it indicated that those updates have taken place at some prior time. Btw, this is just me restating what I read somewhere recently.

That being said, here is what Paul Thurrot posts:

You can find this list of pending updates—which does not appear yet for install in Windows Store—by opening the Event Viewer and searching the System log for “Installation Ready”. What I found when I did this was the following:

Installation Ready: The following updates are downloaded and ready for installation. To install the updates, an administrator should log on to this computer and Windows will prompt with further instructions:
• Microsoft.BingTravel
• Microsoft.Camera
• Microsoft.Bing
• Microsoft.Reader
• Microsoft.BingNews
• microsoft.windowsphotos (Photos)
• Microsoft.BingFinance
• microsoft.microsoftskydrive
• Microsoft.XboxLIVEGames
• Microsoft.ZuneVideo
• Microsoft.BingWeather
• Microsoft.ZuneMusic (Xbox Music)
• microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps (Mail, Calendar, People, Messaging)
• Microsoft.BingMaps
• Microsoft.BingSports

I should also add that I tried the method Paul mentions, but did not find nothing like what he posts.
