It is only too bad that they are bringing down the whole PC industry in the process.
It is difficult for others in the industry - oem's and all those whose jobs depend on it.

The oem's should think about getting a decent alternative os.

They are doing that with phones/tablets, about time they got around to putting something on proper machines.

Who cares if we're a minority, Dare to be different. I can whip through Windows 8 a lot faster than I ever could through Windows 7. I rarely close programmes down and use the edge to reopen them.

Well instead of the major websites rubbishing Windows 8 they could try putting up small tutorials and be a bit more positive, that might help the OEMs. But hey we're talking about MS the most hated company on the planet so that will never happen.

Maybe they could try the 4 different flavours of Mint or the 100s of other forks of Linux, that wouldn't confuse the masses. They can't even have one Mint flavour what does that tell you.

Also what's proper for you is never going to be proper for anyone else. Maybe they could try IOS that's easy or Android that's hard, or Ubuntu or Mint or Red Hat or Debian or Puppy, or Mountain Lion or Snow Leopard and the beat goes on.

I'll tell you what I think. I think the world should accept Windows 8 for the time being, it's not very difficult, just a couple of hot points away from 7 and see what happens with Blue.

Or we turn the whole world upside down looking for something new and that disrupts the whole flow of things.

Agree with all of that... I think sometimes there is no hope. I understand the design of 8 and the reasons behind it, but many will never be comfortable adapting to new technologies.

The thing is that for anyone who has used IOS or Android this should be really simple and even for those who haven't its really just a small learning curve to zip around and access apps that are already partly open.

It does not really matter what you guys think. You are a minute minority.

I am a member of a computer club with 800 mostely elderly members. For a while I was teaching advanced Windows 7 classes there. Now every time I am at the club, several people come up to me with always the same story:

"I bought this new laptop and it came with Windows 8. How can I get Windows 7 back". When I tell them that given time they will get used to it, the answer usually is: " But I don't want to get used to it" - or something like that. At the same time, the Windows 8 classes that we offer are hardly attended.

I go one step further and ask them what they are doing with the laptop. Usually it is mail, skype with their kids and grandchildren, storing some photos, browsing the web. For that kind of scenario I recommend they return the laptop and get a Chromebook instead. Life will be a lot easier.

Now I probably have to buy a Chromebook myself because I see them coming to ask me to teach them how to use that.

For the things these oldies do, they would never have to leave Metro and if they don't leave Metro it is easier than IOS. They should actually be using RT, maybe MS should have made it so that you can use that on a Notebook.

It's always interesting to see how resistant to change the younger generations are. I find the changes in Windows 8 challenging in some areas but so is life. I always thought with changes hitting us constantly that the younger generations would be more resilient but I guess not.

This is in my winter quarters in Florida. And they don't all sign up for classes. 800+ is the total number of club members. Many are not very active.

Probaly true. But they just don't want the whole thing.
