XP is still very popular in China.

A lot of that is individual users. That alone is lot of people.

The growth of mobile devices and shrinking PC sales will end Microsoft's dominance, and by 2017, Microsoft hardware will lag Android device sales by nearly 900 million units annually, and barely squeeze past Apple's share. So says a report by Gartner, which adds that tablets will become people's main computers.
I think it will be sooner due to Windows 8 popularity.

The days of Microsoft's dominance are over, killed by mobile, says Gartner | Computerworld Blogs

MS is surrounded. The amazing success of Android will put serious limits on their growth opportunity.

Ed's article is in typical defence of MS style.

He knows Joe public won't know where to look for win 7 pc's. He also knows they won't come to these kind of forums regularly, even less to blogs such as his.

MS haven't got the 8 offereing right.

They can try and fix it now - earlier would have been better.

A Laptop PC is exactely the same thing as a Desktop PC except that the keyboard is atached to the monitor.
Chiumiento: That Micrososft takes good decisions doesn't mean they must make bad decisons on other things. IMO everybody would be happy if they could take only good decisions and not bad ones, or correct the bad ones once they they appear to be bad.
    Not THAT'S simply not true.

    HAHAHAHAHAA!! Analysts...

Are these the same that predicted the iphone would be the dominate platform after android and Windows Phone after blackberry in four years? Now it's android all of a sudden. Tomorrow it will be Windows Phone... After the iphone 5s and ios 7 comes out, it will be iphone again.

Unfortunately, the Blue we have seen so far gives no indication MS is going to get it right.

    Windows Phone.

And by the market share from this year from last year, not going to be the case for too long at least.
