The rumor mill as now posted on several sites that Windows 9 is now going to be coming out in November 2014.

Don't kill the messenger. . .please. . .

Wow! That's 20 months away. I was hoping it would be sooner. Not that is matters because I'm enjoying 8, but I'm awful curious as to what it is.

I just hope they get it right soon with desktop and phone. When there will be no need use for Android and IOS.

That's what I'm hoping for and I think they're heading in the right direction with Windows 8 and Surface.

Probably more of the same. Just refinements based on stuff they need for mobile(probably extra phone support also) and streamlining the interface for a more seemless experience between RT and desktop. It'll also be the OS people use as an excuse to upgrade from 7 as being the 'fixed' version. Hopefully by then touchscreen monitors become more mature. Right now they've been trailing behind regular monitors in capability per size and they really need to catch up. It doesn't make sense to me to upgrade to a touchscreen if its the same size and resolution as the monitor I have now(especially since my current monitor also has a coax jack and acts as a TV).

If it were like a 27" with 2560x1440 res or something like that and included touch.. then maybe. But right now the touchscreen is simply dragging up the rear when it comes to comparisons versus non-touch monitors.

If I were Microsoft, and since they want to push touch on your desktop, they should probably look at making such a monitor and selling it direct. 1920x1080 won't cut the mustard though(especially since the Pro can output to the higher resolution natively). It has to be bigger than 24" with a higher res and touch to really get people to jump. With a base flexible enough to be situate the screen at multiple angles.

Just like they used 7 as an excuse to upgrade, being a fixed version of Vista you mean?

Hilarious, you are getting your excuses in now.

Its not my excuse. That'll be their excuse, when really.. 8 was fine.

My excuse is I have a Surface Pro and thats what i use 8 on for the time being while i learn it :>. I have the Win 8 DVD for the workstation being used as a coaster for the time being.

Fine for you - but apparently not fine for a lot of people.

9 being the fixed version of 8 with added and improved features will justify any of us upgrading one time comes.
PCIe was an excuse for me to upgrade my mother board, CPU and OS. Now UEFI is excused upgrade all that again.
The only thing stopping me from doing it right now is lack of cash.

Actually, hate to shoot, but there was a leaked Windows roadmap like a year ago I believe or a tad longer than that ago that also said Windows 9 is slated for fall of 2014.

But could this be Blue?! :what:

If Blue does in fact get released THIS year, it will be what I've thought for a while since Blue was known about: basically Windows 8.5, much like how Windows Phone 7 was updated to 7.5 a year after its launch. Two years between new Windows versions, one year stopgap updates in between. Keeps things updated. Possibly a pain the crotch in the enterprise, but up to date nonetheless.

Honestly? I do kind of think Microsoft is doing too much with Windows 8.

I have to say Windows 8 is (mostly) great on tablets and pretty great on laptops, but in reality it's pointless on desktops. especially when you have more than one monitor.

The future of Windows really doesn't work on destops. Unless it's those star-trek like touchscreen systems

For some reason it works perfectly fine on my non touch screen monitor, and I personally have never needed or wanted two monitors, but I can understand some professionals having the need for them. I very seldom even have more than one window open at a time unless I'm copying or moving files.

I have personally never used multiple monitors, but I have heard plenty of people say Windows 8 works perfectly on multiple monitors, but others not. Surely the people who say its not working for them have to be doing something wrong or there is something wrong in their hardware setup or drivers.

I don't know about anyone else, but using every Preview build of Windows 8 as my main OS every three to four months and then moving up to the next one was freaking exhausting! I just want to rest and enjoy it!

But I'll totally be up for testing another Preview build of the next iteration...

It would appear that Microsoft is looking to the Apple way of putting out a new upgrade every two years (10.0, 10.1, etc.). This is not a bad way of doing improvements. It will allow Microsoft to put out updates as OS X does, thus not needing the SP's.
Apple for the last three major changes to their OS X have charged $29.95 per upgrade (Leopard, Lion, etc.) instead of the precious $139.95 giving the users a large break on cost, also allowing them an out to upgrade. If Microsoft uses this method it would be a good way of giving the folks using Windows to upgrade without breaking their bank (one of the main reason Windows user give for not upgrading).

Seems the rumors have some truth to them, at this point it's better to just stay on Windows 7 (if you're thinking about upgrading to Windows 8/Blue) and wait for Windows 9 (Beta) which will probably a lot like how Windows 7 is to Vista unless of course you want to get ahead and slowly familiarize yourself with Metro UI cause I think Metro is here to stay in Windows 9.

Funny.. i recall the initial price of Windows 8 being $40. Even 4 months later i bought a full Windows 8 Pro($199 value) for $15(another $15 to get it on DVD, which i'll install at a later date).

I really do hope they put out a 'sweet spot' must-have hi-res touchscreen monitor at a reasonable price. That alone, would go a long ways towards converting a lot of people on the fence. It needs to be hi-res though (2560X1440) to give people the incentive to upgrade their old monitor. Touch alone will not do it.
