Editorial: Microsoft is singing the right tune with some w

Microsoft is doing a lot right in placing its long bet on ecosystem coherence. But along the way it is making unnecessary mistakes.

Windows 8 and Surface together represent a prodigious bet to round out an eco-branding ploy which hits all major product categories with a consistent look and feel. It is the insistence of that last point, the Metro interface everywhere, that is unnecessary and harmful.

Forcing loyal users through a usage quirk at every boot, just to arrive at the starting point that millions of people have loved for years, is wishful thinking at best, user hostility at worst -- and self-damaging in either event.

Is MS' monetary success dependent on 8 with any/all versions of it?

If anything, the hate might be increasing their bank account. And MS is:roflmao: all the way to the bank!
People that don't like 8 buy a Windows 7 disk instead. It is still money going to MS bank account. No sale lost!
People who bought computers with 8 installed, then buy Windows 7 disk. I am no accountant but, that translates into extra sale!
People who bought computers with 8 installed and replace it with any other program, guess what, not before 'MS gotcha money!'

Whether they use it or not when people buy Windows 8 they do not hurt MS.
When people continue funding negative publicity and pounding away at MS day after day, they are not really hurting MS as much as they are the Windows 8 users community.

They could make all the difference in the world. If we use this group as it was intended. To have constructive discussions about newly discovered features, different ways to access features etc.
For some people the time is long overdue to mention something good about Windows 8 and how it could benefit somebody else.

While some people don't get tired of beating a horse when it's down, some people get tired of watching the horse get beat !

They need to get a pure tablet solution that works(factored for 7"). Any short-term uptake from Win 7 disks or first-month numbers from SP is tempered from the fact that they have 2 million RT frisbees sitting around in a warehouse that they can't move. They should consider donating them to schools if they can't move them :>.

What would the schools use them for? No good APPs for school use.

Interesting to see where they might put the 7 inchers.

$299 perhaps ?

A little under the mini at $329 ( percieved as desirable )

A hefty $50 above the nexus - google make little on that - there is no license fee. How can the oems produce something competitive at that sort of price?

Maybe MS could pay them. Platform subsidies.

MS could make their own at a loss.

Might as well cut out the middle man and pay the public directly to take 8 off their hands.

I am being a touch facetious of course.
