Apple make some good kit but it's not light years in front of everything else like it possibly was a couple of years ago. Big question is where the fruit company goes now. The one thing that MS/Android/Linux will never break is the cult like following from some folks attached to the Apple brand. They will just drift away in time.

Not sure if it's the 'ticking a lot of people off' but I do know about the disappointment many feel over not having UI choice at install time. It really is that simple IMO. Personally I don't like the W8 UI and prefer the look and feel of W7. Okay so I will just stick with W7 but there are under the hood performance improvements with W8.

Whether Surface makes a dent in the market only time will tell. What is a probability is that Windows users will not feel comfortable about the same level of control that the fruit company seems to have over it's users if MS decide that is the route for them - I hope not.

I think you will find upon seeing the first reviews - I posted - MS look to have made a good fist of this.

Maybe one of the things they will do is go for this device making in a much bigger way and do without the oems.

    That would be good.
Well it's certainly good to see you've got blood flowing through your veins. One positive comment is like a rose growing in the desert. Look I don't expect anyone to be positive about everything but surely people can understand that this is a very bold first step.

It would do you a lot of good if you didn't take all of this so personally. Its not like they're paying you or anything and nothing said on here is going to have one bit of effect on the market lol. Microsoft, Apple, and Google will either succeed or fail on their own merits and their own choices and how those are received by the public at large in the form of money they receive. I have my opinion on where its going, and it will either prove to match the reality, or it won't. Same with the other guys.

And if all you want from life is competition against Apple, um.. get out more.

I loathe Apple but their iPads were pretty good when they came out. I hate the idea of being tied to Apple and iTunes and not having USB ports etc. I know MS is heading towards a similar approach but I'd rather give them my money. I can't see MS ever having the same amount of control as they've got OEMs to consider as well.

Samsung seem to be giving Apple a good run - so nothing for you to worry about there, Bill.

It doesn't affect me personally, it seems to affect the other side more personally, I don't really care. The only thing I care about is competition and I happen to like the direction MS is taking as that's the way I'm heading, into the future not the past, I want to shake off the shackles of the Desktop and keyboard and mouse.

The way some of these people talk, you'd think they owned Microsoft and they shouldn't do anything without their say so. They give them advice on what Windows 8 should look like, how it should run, they give them advice on marketing and even which products to release first.

As far as getting out more, I travel more than about 95% of the population, I've seen more of other people countries than they've seen themselves, I'm planning to take off again shortly. But even when I'm out and about I still get onto forums at night before going to bed.

If I was to take everything personally I never would have survived on Forums for this long.

MS will never have that same amount of power in that if they insist on going the full jackboots with Apps, Windows Developers can simply keep releasing desktop versions of their applications(and probably will) :>. We don't need to make App Versions of our tools and tbh any App Version would at best be a crippled Free Lite Version to sell the Full one off the web, because nobody wants to really pay real money for Apps, even if they're High Quality. And who wants to give 30% of their sales(or 20% over $25K) to MS lol? We can sell the desktop version through the web and take 100% of the sales tyvm.

Well I want MS to grind them back to where they belong as well, I want Windows tablets of all shapes and sizes, not some size Steve Jobs made up in his head, just like 3.5" phone.

Its not just Microsoft I'm interested in either I like the OEMs it's what makes Microsoft and it gives people CHOICE.

Curious. You claim to want people to have a choice - but only a choice windows.

What kind of weird idea of choice is that.

I've never said I just want Windows, if I said that my name would be Ray8 he buys everything Windows. All I want is for Microsoft to stay strong because that gives us more choice through OEMs.

If they stay on the Desktop path they are doomed. I don't want Apple or Google to die, I just don't want either to shift the balance too much.
