Tough Times for Win 8 and MS

The Metro UI is a flash to the past not a trip to the future it reminds me of Norton Commander there are only two things different the ability to suspend task and tiles. All task run in full screen only and that to me is a flash to the past.

The future is the desktop no question any thing less is a trip to the past.

I also do not need big brother M$ telling me what I can put in my Metro screen.

That is completely missing the point, but why am I not surprised.

I know what your point is, I just don't know what you're talking about.

This is an early mockup of the Windows 8 touchscreen as described by Ray 8. Also a very early Digitiser Pen.

I've gone back 5million years and can't find any evidence of Gorilla Arm.

Sorry Wenda, you're probably the main one I wanted to catch, if its no more difficult than any other OS, why do you feel you're being forced.
I don't smoke, but I buy cars with a cigarette lighter and ashtray, I don't feel I'm being forced, they're just there.

Now, why would you want to 'catch' me? I've done or said nothing wrong.

And I think you may have my point backwards. I wasn't talking about being forced to use a mouse
and keyboard (which I prefer), I was referring to being forced NOT to.

Disliking touch on a desktop is not wrong.

Nor is liking it on a tablet or phone.

At the moment, I'm not being 'forced' to use touch. But the day I can't CHOOSE to diss touch on a
desktop machine in favour of a mouse/keyboard, that's being forced.

Why do some regard it as compulsory to like EVERYTHING about Win 8, and feel the need to
denigrate or 'knock' anyone who doesn't come on board 100%?

In some ways, this is reminiscent of the rampant rat-baggery found on ZD-Net etc. No-one needs it.

    Wenda.

    Wenda.
Take it easy Wenda, all I'm saying is if it's no more difficult why worry about it. You don't have to like everything about Windows 8, all I'm saying is you can use it just as easy with or without touch, which is basically what you're saying.

All I'm trying to get at is why are people so concerned about touch when it's not really a problem. I myself would dump Windows 8 on all my PCs if I couldn't use a keyboard and mouse.

On a Laptop I can definitely see advantages in having touch because you're so close to the screen.

I just can't see that happening and if it does I'll be heading over to Linux.

The fact that there is such violent disagreement just within this forum, regarding the implementation, proves that it's not an insignificant issue.
Not really. If it wasn't the start button, people would find something else to get ticked off over. Its what we do :>.

I don't think so. If there are two issues that have polarised the entire debate, it's the removal of the start menu from the desktop and the placement of the MPI as the alternative. The second thing that I've always mentioned is the lack of ability to use apps in a windowed capacity, which appears to be also recognised and addressed by Stardock, with ModernMix. Were it not for those, any issues would be no different to what you would get in the Windows 7 forum.

Is this just a random statement, putting your mental musings into writing; not directed at anyone or anything in particular and not seeking a response from anyone? I thought it would be interesting to tease this one out.
