With a ute (or pickup truck), you can install canopies, roof racks, towbars, bullbars, driving lights, bigger tyres, the list goes on. You can't do any of that with a Ferrari, it might go fast and impress the girls, but that's it.
That's always going to be a problem with tablets although you can add some extra storage via a micro card in some cases. Maybe they are seen by the manufacturers as disposable pieces of kit. So after a couple of years throw it away and buy new again.

They call them accessories :P. You can add a 64 or 128 gig flash card, slap any number of things on it via USB, attach it to a high res monitor via the mini display port, etc.

But yes, granted you can't jack the processor or anything 'under the hood'.

But those 'accessories' are like requiring a trailer, not entirely a satisfactory solution, especially if you have a Ferrari.

They could begin with by not gluing the whole lot together, so that nothing inside is accessible. Use a bit of design innovation so that some changes could be possible.

And what would happen if that made them, thicker, heavier and more expensive.

Anyway Ray, I hope your wishes come true. Windows 8 will fail, Surface will fail, WP 8 will fail, Microsoft Office will fail and you'll get Windows 7 back, and Steve Balmer will be working in a Chinese Laundry.

You'll be living in a world dominated by Apple and Google, the future is looking good for you, I hope you like expensive computers and el cheapo tablets.

I'm not sure that I agree with that. Many of the people that I know who have Mac's used to have PC's, or still have some PC's. A lot of my friends with Macbooks are IT guys, or web developers or software architects. They didn't blindly end up on a Mac because they were taken advantage of and simply didn't know any better.

You see, this is where you don't appear to be able to comprehend anything that I and others, who hold similar views, have posted. All you see, when anyone criticises some aspect of Windows 8, is that it immediately means that they wish to see Microsoft fail. Your way of viewing things is very bizarre, to say the least.

Additionally, I use Windows products exclusively and find them the best option for what I do. You, on the other hand, appear to be an avid Apple and Android user, with multiple copies of their products and exceedingly willing to always buy their latest product. You keep saying one thing, yet appear to do quite the opposite. That is also very bizarre.

See Ray, now you're saying you only criticise some aspect of Windows 8, wrong, you criticise Surface Pro, Surface RT, the way Microsoft Office is being sold, really almost anything other than Windows 7, even touch.

Like I've always said the biggest danger to Microsoft is Windows users. The only thing that seems bizarre to me is that this is a Windows 8 forum, it seems more like the Spanish Inquisition.

Actually I'm starting to understand why people move away from Microsoft.

The funniest thing on here is people criticising touch, do you realise there's a huge number of Apple people wanting touch on their MacBooks.
