Microsofts little screen big screen interactive Future

. Giant interactive surfaces will complement the more mobile variety of today. That's how Microsoft sees the future.
Walk up to a massive interactive screen with a Surface tablet, tap it, and, voila, now you're working on the big screen. Or project your Windows phone screen onto a larger surface.

It does remind me a bit of some of the more nightmare-ish visions of the future that other people have imagined though.

"Parlor walls" in Farenheit 451 spring to mind.

There was also a thought-provoking TV series in the UK called Black Mirror; one of the programmes in Series 1 (15 Million Merits) showed someone whose living space was basically a small cubicle with screens on every side, driven by gestures rather than touch.

Which sounds great until you realise you can't turn the advertising off...

Hi there
What's that Tom Cruise movie --- "Future Crime" / "Pre-Crime" or something like that. There's a load of those devices there.

Looking at your image -- not sure how you'd get those pieces of kit into some of the places where I've worked in -- the space shown in your image would probably fit 40 people in some of the "offices" I've been to in the past.

Cheers

;) Could happen. All the datacentres that populate the fancy screens need to be paid for somehow...

Guess we'll never have those devices then.

McDonald's Pulls Out Of Iceland

The economy has recovered greatly since 2009 -- but the Big Mac is still nowhere to be seen. Can't say I'm sorry either. Just look at the long supply chains for processed meat where even the big supermarkets don't know where their products come from or even worse what's in them - certainly the label on the packaging is often at variance with the goods supplied -- look at the "Horsemeat Burger" scandals going through Europe currently.

Mind you perhaps the losing runners at Exeter 14.00 should be destined for the Dinner table !!!!.

I can see it now. Shortly after that is released upon us. More people will develop complex mental issues and go off the deep end because their computer doesn't have time for them anymore.

Those complex issues are already here, haven't you seen people tapping away at their phone and walking into canals or into the side of a bus.

Hi there
Don't forget also the increasing "Phone Rage" of 3rd parties who just (probably rightfully) decide enough is enough and beat the phone user to pulp after they've had it to the eyeballs sitting in a crowded space from which they can't move away from with some idiot yelling and screaming into his / her mobile phone .

I almost feel like doing that myself the next time I hear a person on a mobile yelling "I'm on the Train". .....

My next post will probably come from inside a Jail cell !! after I've been done for GBH. Sometimes I feel it would be worth it though -- no bills, free board and lodging etc etc. -- In this country (IS) the jails are better equipped and more comfortable than some people's Homes !!!.

Please Airlines -- No mobiles !!!! Imagine a flight from London to LA (10 hrs approx.) with a noisy phone user in the next door seat -- give me a screaming Baby instead !!!.

Cheers

!!!.

It's a real tossup between a screaming baby noisy phone user.
I think I would prefer an external wing seat on a lower altitude flight.

Seriously, the ones I can't get used to are the hands free phone users. Even though I know what they're doing. But I grew up at a time when if you were seen walking around talk to nobody, you were thought not to be quite right in the head. If you are talking to someone on the phone you had to be holding the phone. Whether it's wireless are not.
I remember the interactive phone displays at the museum. Where you could see each other in the monitor. That was neat.

Fahrenheit 451 had such spot on futuristic predictions. Ray Bradbury really knew what was up!

As long as they're not being used for television and television interaction and more for interpersonal communication face to face, I'm alright with that. :)

OK tell me how I set my house up with bluetooth so that when I walk into a room I can say something like
turn light #1 on
turn light #2
turn fan on low, medium or high
turn TV on
turn volume up or down
go to channel #17
recline my recliner 20°

What's on channel 17?... ;)

You'll need a wifi enabled smarthome setup to do that. Wifi "smartbulbs," probably an app on your phone to control the fan as well.

You can turn on your TV and tilt your recliner your bloody self! :D

Hi there

Even this is getting "Dinosaur Technology"

You should be enable to save this as a sort of "Macro" so when it's been done once, the next time you enter the room the sensor knows it's you and will perform the required actions.

Actually for me -- I've trained the dog to get me a can of beer out of the fridge and bring me the papers -- This is so much nicer for me -- and I get a nice Bark and a lick too. !!

Sometimes I really DO prefer "Wolverine" type of technology .... Nice Doggy --thanks for the Beer.

Cheers
