As I said, it's fairly basic, certainly no Surface or iPad, but is pretty good value for what it is.

And Surface prices may come down to my level in the future, I haven't written them off.

    Wenda.
That's the way to go. No need to waste a lot of money on these gadgets that you will use only occasionally and for very basic tasks.

I spent 230 US$ on a 32GB Nexus 7. Went for the extra storage because it has no sd card slot. It is handy on the go for navigation, checking the email, phone calls (I have no handy) and a bit of entertainment and news. When I am on the go, I am on vacation and don't want to do any serious work anyhow.
How do you know how often people use these things, tell me how often I use these things. Ask business types how often they use these things.
Different people have way different uses for these things, I've seen people willing to pay way more than the asking price for a Surface Pro.
When I'm on an overseas trip I use these things everyday, sometimes hours per day, booking hotels, flights, cars and restaurants and looking up places of interest.
I edit large photos, 16 megapixel and collate hours of text and photos, some of this stuff I would call very serious work. But I would be able to do even more on a Surface Pro.
With the Surface Pro I would have a USB slot and an SD slot and use thousands of programmes.

I love the way you make stuff up and then sound as if you know what you're talking about. Makes you wonder.
Let me correct a misunderstanding. When I said they 'connect' to a desktop, I meant that they use a desktop in lieu of the tablet. That said, I know people who 'connect' their Android tablets wirelessly to their Windows desktops to read email etc in their lounges, the desktop is only used when the tablet is clearly not suitable.

What am I making up here? I can't physically show you these people using an Android tablet and linking their tablet to their desktop. But what I've stated is completely factual. You always act so authoritarian, yet it's all too easy to deflate that expanded ego.

If you read Whs post , he said :

    Makes perfect sense.

That sentence does not preclude spending more on a gadget you will use often and for non basic tasks.

What does Bill actually do? Somewhere on the forum he indicated that he was retired, yet now he seems to be a fully employed international traveller of sorts, where there's nothing that he doesn't do, and has a need for every modern gadget available. He knows all the ins and outs of Microsoft and appears to be similarly experienced with Apple and all manufacturers of Android. It makes you wonder.

Maybe he is retired. Could be very wealthy - travels a lot , can afford frequent flights, hotels, restaurants, etc. Keeps himself busy with advanced photo and video editing and other complex activities that require thousands of programs. Who knows?

He may well be, but then why bother with forums trying to upsell Windows and down sell every other OS? If I was in that situation, I know I'd be more involved in other things than trying to be a Microsoft ubergeek.

Perhaps he enjoys a good natured argument.

He will probably chime in at some point soon with another gem. He did even before I finished typing this. Right on cue.

Does it matter what I do, I don't ask you what you do. One thing I can absolutely assure you, I don't make stuff up and I don't lie, I usually try to stick as close to the facts as I can.

I have even more gadgets, but we wont get into that, lets just say what I've been saying all along I'm a tech enthusiast, have been since I was a kid and I travel a lot.

Okay, I've got a thing for cameras as well.
