Reminder – Register & Redeem Windows 8 Upgrade Offer promo

I wanted to publish a quick reminder that you have until February 28th to register for the Windows Upgrade Offer to receive a promo code via email that can be used to upgrade your Windows 7 PC to Windows 8 Pro for just $14.99. Once you’ve registered for the Windows Upgrade Offer, you’ll need to use your promo code by February 28th as well. The promo code you received as part of registering for the Windows Upgrade Offer allows you to upgrade your Windows 7 PC to the Windows 8 Pro edition. When you register for the Windows Upgrade Offer, you will receive a promo code via email. You then go to Windows.com to buy a Windows 8 Pro upgrade like you would normally through the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant (I blogged about the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant here). When you get to the point in the process where you are asked to confirm your order, you are given the opportunity to enter the promo code you were sent by registering for the Windows Upgrade Offer and the price of Windows 8 Pro will then drop to $14.99 (U.S.). Then you proceed with the rest of the process and upgrade your PC! The promo code sent to you via email by registering for the Windows Upgrade Offer is what enables you to get the great price.

    Note   Note
This promo is for upgrading newly purchased Windows 7 PCs to Windows 8 Pro.

    Thanks Shawn.

Now what is the difference between the Pro version and the Home version. Not really seeing a reason for such an upgrade as a home user.

Remote Desktop, Windows Server domain, Encrypting File System, Hyper-V, Group Policy as well as BitLocker and Windows Media Center to name a few.

Not worth the upgrade for home users I think.

It can be, and for $15 why wouldn't you? If you were going to get Win8 anyway?
Not doing it cause it is a Pro version and a home user may not need it, is not a good excuse to pass this up.
    That just makes zero sense.

I think this offer is for newly purchased computers before Windows 8 came out not for older Windows 7 computers.

For some users it may not be a viable upgrade for features that they will never make use of, others will like the shiny "Professional" logo. I honestly don't know.

So, if you are already going to buy it,,,

I am sorry, I have to say it....

    Nah, $15 for things I won't use?
I'll wait and pay the $120....

Wow, if that isn't the most absurd statement ever.

Hmm, I can get this car on sale and save a few thousand, nah, it has too many options, I'll wait and buy it later at full price without all the extras.

Where has common sense gone too? Is it really that far out of the grasp of people?

As a home user (retired) there is no reason for the above monition services. The only one that might be useful would be Hper-V, albeit with VMWare Workstation 9 that is covered.

I must admit that before I got Windows 8 Pro I would have thought the same. However now I have it, I've found BitLocker to be useful as a way to encrypt my files.

Since XP I've understood the Home versions to be limited in features.
While the Pro versions have added features. Primarily in the line of security, not only while online but between users also.
The Pro version also includes some additional administrator tools.
The Pro version allows you to join a domain to connect with a school for corporate network.
The Pro version enables you to connect to your PC when you're on the go with Remote Desktop Connection.
The Pro version provides enhanced data protection using BitLocker Technology to help keep your information secure.

I wish they would have extended the $39 offer for the 8 upgrade.
