Windows 6.3 build 9319 spotted in the wild

Since the launch of Windows 8, the string of leaks of Windows builds has all but come to a halt. While we have been hearing quite a bit about Windows Blue, the images you see above are supposedly from the M1 of Windows 9 (unconfirmed). As noted by the post on MicrosoftPortal.net, the M1 build kernel has been given a bump to 6.3 (Windows 8 uses kernel 6.2). In addition, the images are supposedly from Windows 9 build 9319; Windows 8 was build 9200.

It's time for leaks again, been too long since the last one.

Windows Blue to bring a faster kernel and better search - Neowin

Oh la la! Looks like Windows 8 Blue is going to bring some new goodies for sure, faster kernel, probably some better Bing search integration, faster boot times, smaller disk foot printer, better metro app scaling, and wait there's more! Internet Explorer 11! How much did you think it would cost?! 500 dollars?! 600 dollars!? A thousand?! No, you can get this snazzy new Windows 8.5ish update for a low low price of nothing!

So I've read the rumors on Windows Blue but the statement I don't understand is statement regarding the kernel. So what does that mean to the novice? Is it performance related or stability? Or does it mean something completely different?

Thanks,

It's basically the whole base of the operating system, everything ties back to the kernel. So, if the kernel is more efficient (I'm guessing it's through MinWin technology Microsoft's come across in recent years and developed on) that means the OS as a whole is faster and better and more secure. That's why when vista came out, being built on NT Kernel 6, was more secure than Windows xp's NT Kernel 5, which wasn't too secure. But in Windows 7, the kernel was improved to 6.1 and that's how we get 7 being fast, stable, and secure. In Windows 8, it's NT Kernel 6.2 which is a further optimized kernel. 6.3 though, I wonder what that has in store.

At least that's what I can tell.

Love the leaks as it is totally confusing. First they say this is Blue (update to Windows 8) now its Windows 9. Its probably a PR game from MS to peak the interest of the enthusiasts and give the blogs something new to write about. :p It's a lot better then more stories about what's wrong with MS.

Hi there
In the wild these are usually known as the "Black" editions.

I suspect though -- and I hope I'm 100% WRONG that the next version(s) of windows may well be based on a subscription model -- or at least the updates / service packs might become "Chargeable Features".

I don't know squat about writing software and may be totally bonkers here, but I think Blue is an optional addition to 8 Modern UI to address multitasking for business (and others) using MS Store apps instead of legacy programs on the desktop, which I think will be phased out once apps are written. It will be multi-paning much like a picture-in-picture television. One will be able to open as many apps as one needs to use. This might be the new "Windows reimagined".

Imagine the possibilities. It will be much like the invention of the Start Screen with live tiles updating at intervals. One may have, let's say, a "live pane" with a clock and weather. Another one for email. Another for stock ticker. Another for People app. Another for Calendar. Another for interoffice communication. Whatever one needs to tab through to work on. Of course all this depends on screen real estate.

Let's say one may drag a pane over to another monitor to work on. Perhaps two. One may be able to configure or personalize this "new personalized multipane desktop" to open at boot just like the Start Screen.

I think MS did a fine job catering to any one of the keyboard, mouse, touch pad, touch screen with finger, or whatever one prefers to navigate with on their first approach. Can it be improved? You betcha', just as all things can.

This all may not happen until 9. All in all, I believe Modern/Metro interface is here to stay and will continue to be the future of MS computing.

Another thing is that companies could easily have apps written specifically for their own needs.

Also remember that the legacy desktop is now a portal of the new interface.

Oh that old hippie has some crazy ideas doesn't he?!! :D

It's been known for a while now that there is a Blue wave update coming. Whether or not this is Windows 9 or Blue is still yet to be known, but it's probably like a Windows 8.5 type of thing where they release a yearly update that adds some new features and UI enhancements, then Windows 9 later in a year after that or two. Maybe NT Kernel 7 that is a pure MinWin kernel? One can only dream...

I know, and Windows Blue is apparently supposed to be free.
