There are a lot of people out there that look at $1000 like most folks look at $100.
    Hi there
I wouldn't pay 1000 USD for a tablet - but I remember when portable TV's came out (original models had a 2-3 inch screen and were also Radio sets) people paid a huge amount of money for these.

People will pay money for what they perceive as trend setters.

People will also pay ridiculous sums of money for what others see a total waste -- I for one can't understand why people pay 1000's of dollars for say a Rolex watch when the watch I'm using I was given FREE when I bought 50 litres of Gas and it works just as well and probably better (and for my eyes also the "old fashioned Railway clock" face it has is infinitely easier to read) than the Rolex !!.

People's choice (if they have the money). My "freebie" watch is much more useful than the Rolex and who cares if I lose it and for sure I certainly won't get mugged for it or be immediately suspected of being a Drug Dealer / Smuggler when going through Immigration at Los Angeles airport (LAX).

    Cheers

After reading this... probably better going off with this 'Cintiq 24HD Touch" Sure it's about 5 times the cost but I personally rather have stability than shoddy support. Plus I can just plug it into one of these anyway so it's great!

With the Mac Pro Update and me updating my main PC to a dual 6-core machine and at 64GB of ram the surface pro plus the cintiq 24HD will be a great combo.

Hey, I got mine . I was the first one thru the doors at Best Buy. They only had 1, the two guys behind me didn't get one. I wondered why they only had one. It seems to me anyone spending that type money would want 128GB not 64GB considering you have to subtract the space taken up by OS . But what do I know about .......

Or you can use something else and not bother with any of this stuff. I can see that as very advantageous for lots of people.
In this case I'm talking about a PC environment where you do real work, not where you just look at facebook or play the latest fart apps. All of my PC security works automatically, I don't need to intervene at all. IE10 is configured such that I don't get any crap and that's it. Where is the effort that people always seem to be going on about?
People look at porn and download illegal torrented software and riddle their machines with problems. I've had to clean a many one up and it's a real mess when it happens.
exactly, many ppl go to porn sites and download bad software riddled with malware, otherwise I would not still be in business,,,lol most of my clients are those who are racked with viruses and trojans, It is bad enough on a PC but one would expect a Tablet to have more security than a pc. You can go to a porn site on the ipad and not get a darn thing but go to a porn site on a pc and you are in for a heap of trouble.

If I am going to spend over a $1000 for a tablet I would like it to be security free

I've helped people clean up their PCs as well, but once done, I set things up for them so that they won't have to worry about such things again. I've never had to do a repeat afterwards.
I am curious also, do you beat them to follow your instructions? <g> because I give instructions and put security on all my clients computers but some just ignore anything I say or do, then they come crying to me that their computer is now acting like a monster.
I have had one that when Avast popped up and told them that there was an infection and asked them what to do they picked ignore it instead of quarantine it, because this particular game they went to was a favorite of all their friends.
This game put on more spyware onto their computer it took me hours to remove it all

No, you simply explain to them what they have not done and what they have done wrong, to the best of their understanding. I then tell them what I'm doing to fix the issues. As I said, none of them have had problems thereafter. My wife plays on-line games on her laptop (Vista), which I've also setup and so far she hasn't had any issues.

Considering that you have 'clients', then it's all money in the bank when they don't listen to you.

    Hey Robinb9,

Apple = Security through obscurity - That does not mean invulnerable.

“There is no economic benefit to investing the time in compromising a Mac when you can compromise 10 to 20 times more systems for the same level of effort by going after PCs.”
    - Mac Security: Antivirus | Macworld

by the time you finish you are up to almost $1500

No You can't and I dare you to prove it. Oh, right, garbage PC's and a garbage laptop.

Who would pay $799 or even $929 for a tablet? Oh, yeah, people who might buy an ipad.
Oh and with all those accessories.. wow, I really could build a nice Desktop.

Sheesh, really? Someone needs to stop eating the poison Apples and get some help.

btw, I haven't been infected in Win7 in a couple of years, since the wife opened an email she didn't really pay attention to.
And on Win8? Haven't been infected yet.

Tepid, maybe you cannot get 3 quality PCs for $1500, but I got 2 superb systems for less:

    2. This superb Dell XPS8300 for $850

    1 XPS 8300
    1 XPS 8300 Intel Core i7-2600 processor(8MB Cache, 3.4GHz)
    1 8GB DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz - 4x2GB
    1 Dell Consumer Multimedia Keyboard
    1 AMD Radeon HD 6670 1GB DDR5
    1 500GB Serial ATA 2 Hard Drive 7200 RPM
1 Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, English, No Media
1 Dell USB 6-Button Laser Mouse
    1 Add 2 USB 3.0 ports
    1 16x DVDRW Drive
1 Dell 1501 WLAN PCIe card
1 Dell Hardware Limited Warranty, Extended Year
1 Dell Hardware Limited Warranty, Initial Year
Dell Limited Hardware Warranty Plus In-Home Service After Remote

    Subtotal: $801.63
