He's too busy giving his money to worthwhile causes to be worried about these trivial matters.

Anyway, how can you neuter an iPad, it's just one notch above a photo frame, they should have used something with steel balls like the Surface Pro, but that will come. Once Obama finds out that watching videos is all it's good for he'll get the Pro.

Bill Gates was on Reddit today in an Ask me Anything session, where he talked about the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation's work, programming, Windows 8, vista, and other things. Pretty interesting read through.

I read that about 5 mins ago and he was very circumspect about the question on which was better, Windows 7 or 8. He simply said higher is better, not exactly a resounding endorsement. He also said he'd just received a Surface Pro (so late?), but didn't say much about it.

If he had any real interest he would be hating the direction of windows 8, now yes you can disabled metro, yes you can fully get the startmenu back and you can get your workflow back + speed improvements thanks to removing aero or they could have fined tuned the aero's gfx api but we know that driectX uses more resources than OpenGL for roughly the same stuff but sometimes does better and sometimes..not so much. Take KDE 4.10 for example which was just released, with 64GB of ram it uses right out 500MB but Windows 7 uses 3GB. there was a lot of crud code with aero and maybe they couldn't get it right so they removed it. KDE 4.10 can run in windows by the way if you want to compile it from source.

This was released after his tenure at Microsoft.

Windows 7 brought further touch features, such as a larger Taskbar, larger window control buttons, and a few other touch based programs along with certain games for touch AIO PCs.

The mouse based PC, according to Microsoft, isn't the future. The future of PC interaction is based off the Natural User Interface of touch, speech, and gestures.

Also, the code in Windows 7/8 is pretty efficient. Take a gander at the Windows 7/8 Embedded versions. They're slimmed down versions of the full Windows code that functions pretty much the same, except smaller footprint. You can even install a 64 bit version of Windows 7 or 8 with less than 9 gigs. The reason why there is so much bloat is I think because of a shadow copy of something with Windows, so it can repair itself or something along those lines. I don't know.
