Huge Pent Up Demand for Windows 8 Tablets

As many as 200 million IT workers may be holding out for the right Windows 8 tablet, Forrester says.

Market research firm Forrester polled nearly 10,000 IT workers, and out of those surveyed, more showed an interest in a Windows 8 tablet than an iPad, ReadWrite.com reports. Only 2 percent said they already own a Windows 8 tablet, but 32 percent said they wanted one. As for the iPad, 26 percent polled said they'd like to own one (and 12 percent pointed to Android).

How Forrester made the leap to 200 million IT workers wanting a Windows 8 tablet, we're not really sure.

I don't need an analyst to tell me that, I told you I spend a lot of time on forums, and I've told you before, I've seen guys with iPads, some with two, dying to get their hands on these things.

Not only guys with iPads but Android tablets as well saying they can't wait for these things. Look I'm not going to rubbish these other tablets altogether they serve a purpose and both are quite good at what they do, but lets face it neither can do what Windows can do.

I'm getting older and out of the workforce so I don't absolutely need all the stuff Windows can do, but I can certainly see the sense in a wholly interwoven ecosystem.

Also I have a few PCs and tablets and the ability to leave one and go onto another where I left off is really appealing to me, and so it should be to anyone.

    200 million.

How did they work that out?

Perhaps they just extrapolated from the 32% of their sample.

If they are doing that, then Apple at 26% would mean more than 160 million want an ipad ( on top of the 75m or so that already have them ).

What does that mean ? Are 160m+ suddenly going to rush out and buy an ipad over the next few weeks?

If that is the case, Uncle Tim had better start stocking up the shelves right away.

Whatever, it might indicate those 32% are at least prepared to have a look/consider it.

What I found funny was the reference to 200 million IT workers. Considering that the world's population is just under 7000 million, that's a lot of IT workers per head of population (1:35). Now if you start to be somewhat ruthless with who and where people are likely to even see a Windows tablet, let alone afford one, then the figure could conceivably drop to around half that, if not a lot more. So now we have one IT worker per 17 other workers/non-workers.

Maybe their definition of IT worker includes anyone who happens to use a computer, cash register, point of sale device etc. Maybe they just pulled figures from a dark, wet, place?

I have no idea how they came up with that.

Perhaps it is a misprint with an extra zero.

LOL Ray, well, if you are looking at it like that:

If 32% of their sample of IT workers extrapolates to 200m , then there must be more than 3 times that many IT workers. Well over 600m.

If the entire population is 7bn, exclude those who are not in work - e.g. under 18 and over 65, exclude those who barely even have electricity...

Although it actually says information workers.

That makes it look even more optimistic.

I would imagine they tried to extrapolate to the world working population.

Look for once I agree with you guys, these figures are absolutely outrageous, there's just no way on this planet that there would be anywhere near that amount of IT workers wanting one. What I would believe to be a more believable figure is 199.9 million give or take .1

I think that survey was commissioned, conducted and evaluated by Bill.
