Oracle releases Java 7 Update 13 early to address issues

Just a day after news broke that Apple had blocked Java for the second time this month, Oracle on Friday announced the release of Java 7 Update 13 to address 50 vulnerabilities. The patch comes more than two weeks early (the February 2013 Critical Patch was originally scheduled for February 19), but it was rushed out because Oracle was notified of “active exploitation in the wild of one of the vulnerabilities affecting the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) in desktop browsers.”

Oracle Java 7 Update 13 is Out

It's a tough work.

The fixes seem to grow exponentially. Hope they can keep it up.

I wish I wouldn't need Java so I could uninstall it. Unfortunately I need it to loggon to my bank . It seems to me that Java is doing a RIM and is going RIP very soon.

Java has always been chuck full of security issues. That's why so many people have historically been moving away from it. Unless you need it, don't install it onto your machine. Unfortunately, so many of us are required to use it because of sites that we use and depend on.

I haven't needed it for a website in a long time, but I need it for Minecraft. Fortunately, this means I can simply disable it in the browser and never have to worry about the security vulnerabilities. After all, you don't surf malicious websites through Minecraft.

True but I'm afraid exploits can be used by hackers even on non malicious sites and programs. You just need Java and an internet connection.

It is a lot harder though if it is disabled in the browser. You don't have to worry about viruses that use java being installed without your knowledge. But if one does download a file (containing the virus), it would be completely the fault of the downloader.

A week or so ago my java -32 & 64 bit-quit working.
I uninstalled & re-installed several times.
Tried to re-install that is.
Including update 13.
Couldn't.

Got little error window saying installer.dll couldn't be found.
I searched & found installer.dll & it was 0 bytes.
Odd.

I contacted Oracle & got no reply.

I tried with both IE 10 & Chrome.--Failure to install.

Has anyone else had the same issue ?

Even shut off Firewall & all anti-virus before downloading & trying to install.
Never had a problem with java before.
