Students to get Windows 8 upgrade discount

Fear not, starving students who want to upgrade to Windows 8. Microsoft has a plan to let you upgrade your older Windows systems for much less than the standard upgrade price.

As Microsoft's ridiculously low price for upgrading older Windows systems to Windows 8 comes to a close tomorrow, the company has revealed a plan to let students upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for less than half the standard rate.

    Something like that.

And some students who take technology classes may be entitled to access to DreamSpark (formerly MSDN AA) and they can land a copy of Windows there for free.

JLyman, I have never seen any copy of Windows for free in dreamspark? Any details you can tell me about it? Is that something new?
I am glad that Microsoft continues to do Student discounts because in todays word being a student without a computer really sets you behind and it's an inconvenience. Even if you do have a computer then there is things like Office Suite which is the standard and most schools and offices only work with that.

In conclusion students NEED these discounts. Glad they continue to do so.

It depends on what agreement your school has with Microsoft. An old college I went to had everything Microsoft ever made in the last decade up for grabs.

Hi, Brink. I'm new to the forum, but I am already a fan of your work. I work at a large school district wherein computers running Win8 are shared by staff and students. How can I create a new account type (i.e. Student) and apply the fix above to limit what programs appear when students log on. I...
