The mystery of Windows 8 and the new 'Protogon' file system

Windows enthusiast Sandro Villinger has a nice summary of some of the known and unknown Windows 8 features that various folks have discovered since internal “milestone” builds began leaking over the past couple of months.
Villinger makes a passing mention of something I hadn’t heard of in his Windows 8 Top 10: Something named (or codenamed) “Protogon.”

I guess this might replace WinFS? Protogon though sounds like a developmenting name (like Paragon+Prototype). Maybe it will have a new name later.

I think Windows 8 is going to have a lot of 3rd party AV companies and others working overtime to make sure that their products are compatible with Windows 8. Lots and lots of work for Windows related software developers.

I would guess that they will replace NTFS. There are currently too many restrictions and Win8 would be a good time to switch. NTFS is also probably not very suitable for the portable devices.
