IonMonkey delivers a faster Firefox

Search suggestions and better malware protections hit Firefox on Android, while the desktop browser gets a faster JavaScript engine and some under-the-hood tweaks.

A new version of Firefox released today puts some extra speed into online games and Web apps powered by JavaScript, thanks to a new compiler called IonMonkey.

Mozilla stated in a blog post announcing the update to Firefox 18 (download for Windows | Mac | Linux) that the new engine makes JavaScript-powered Web sites run up to 25 percent faster than before.

Hello Shawn,
Bad news. I installed Firefox 18.0 and it is crashing left and right. When it works, it is a little bit faster than the older version (17.01 is what I was using and had no problem), I also notice that if I open a website which has a flash content, Firefox 18.0 will hang and from the task manager, I saw memory keeps growing up to 95% then crashes. In the past, I had this problem with Flash Player and had to turn off the Protect Mode and disable the hardware acceleration to get it to work. In the last couple of weeks, Adobe has twice come out with new updates of flash player. I am now using the latest version 11.5.502.146 and back to Firefox 17.01

FYI, While testing this, I had all the Add-ons disabled, no toolbar installed.

Maybe you need to do a clean FF install.

Maybe you need to do a clean FF install.

I did twice. First time is an upgrade, second time, uninstalled with Revo-Uninstaller then fresh clean install. No go !!!

Clean Profile

I should have been more specific.
You may need to create a clean profile (remember to export your Bookmarks first).

Most of the time ...

Most of the time you shouldn't have to create a new profile.
I suspect that (sometimes) there is some incompatibility with the old databases and/or browser scripts (corruption?).

I should have been more specific.

No problem. :)
I had a problem with FF 4 that wouldn't go away, until I created a new profile.

FF 18 seems to be working OK in my Windows 7 install.

The "big test" is how FF behaves in my physical XP installation (it always works correctly in my XP VMs).
