Why would Google waste money on developing apps for MS OS? MS isn't developing Android versions of their software either. And MS has the audacity to nowadays sell 3 different OS (x86, Windows RT, windows 8 mobile) which are not compatible with each other. If they would have one single OS, or at least only 2, more developers would spend time developing.

And MS has such small market share in phones and tablets, why would most developers spend time developing for them if they can develop for iOS and Android with large number of potential costumers?

GM can't be forced to produce spare parts for Ford. Why do we think in the software market the competitors can be forced to cooperate? Each company sells their own products, service and aftermarket products (apps). If MS think they are entitled to a youtube like app, why don't they create a website called MS-tube" and run youtube out of business? i don't recall MS developing browsers with the good of the competition in mind. In fact, MS almost ruined a universally compatible Internet with their non-standard browsers.
There's a lot more potential for developers on Windows Phone than other platforms. One would be competing against 150,000 or so apps on Windows Phone versus 500,000+ on ios or android. Also, Windows Phone users are more likely than other platform users to pay for apps, at least good quality apps.

And no, Windows RT and Windows Phone's build up are rather similar, it isn't too difficult to code for WinRT then to rework parts of the UI and code for Windows Phone.

    Let's put it this way.

Microsoft doesn't need Google... Google sure as hell needs Microsoft.

Google wouldn't be what they are today without Windows. That is a fact.

If google were to try and block all Google stuff from MS (Windows) completely. They would go down in flames.
And I would say good riddance, they need to go the way of AOL anyway. Another garbage company that imploded.

If Microsoft does not need Google then why is Microsoft crying to the press?

    Hi there
I can't understand this B/S about windows phones not being able to use You Tube -- just point the browser at Youtube.com or whatever and it will work.

Install the Chrome browser if you must.

'Nuf said about this whole topic

It's bad enough looking at the current total Lawyers fest out there between Samsung and Apple -- do we really need Google vs Ms -- NOBODY would win that one (except again those evil Lawyers).

    Cheers

Simply, Google is being used like lapdogs ,,,, Publicity.
Even a bit of negative publicity can be good. And MS are calling them out on their hypocritical behavior.

You could also say, the hypocrites are calling out the hypocrites on their hypocrisy.

maybe it is a wasted opportunity for Google... but why should a court be able to force Google to take advantage of that opportunity?

and Google already produces "apps" for MS OS. It is called Chrome and helped (along with FF) to abolish MS near monopoly on browsers and webstandards. MS sure did not encourage Google to develop this "app" but now they all of a sudden want a 3rd party to develop products for them?
In my book google already developped an MS app with chrome. It kind of is MS fault if they now make incompatible OS and wine that there are no apps.
and they don't seem to understand, most of the Google apps are webbased and platform independent:search, engine, all the google docs, all their storage solution..all this can be used for all MS OS, iOS, android, Linux.... this is the idea of cloud services. All it requires is browser which isn't Google's responsibility to provide.

And as you say, windows phone is different and requires some re-work from the tablet RT version. this really isn't necessary to put up an additional burden for developers.

You misunderstand, they are not asking Google to develop an app for them, they are blocking MS's code to access YouTube efficiently and fully as all other you tube apps do for iPhone and Android.

They are deliberately saying, Yes, we support our own devices and Apple and anyone else we do like,
but no to MS or anyone else we don't like for that matter.

it's equivalent to MS saying we won't allow chrome to access some of our sites (ie, Live.com or Maps, or SkyDrive).
    Google would go Ape nuts.

"Just last month we learned from YouTube that senior executives at Google told them not to enable a first-class YouTube experience on Windows Phones,"

They're not asking the court to force google to develop for Microsoft. They're saying that they are being locked out from using google's services on a specific platform competitor. It's just like Tepid said, if Microsoft blocked out SkyDrive or Outlook.com on google chrome, the VERY SAME situation would be occurring.

Whether this is definitive anti-trust violations on google's behalf is let for debate, as they merely got a slap on the wrist from after an anti-trust probe by the FTC.
