Windows 8 setup screenshot hints at forthcoming leak

A leaked screenshot of an upgrade edition of Windows 8 may hint at a forthcoming leak.

Notorious company insider Zukona unveiled screenshots of an upgrade copy of Windows 8 on Thursday. Although the screenshots only cover the setup process of Windows 8, they do confirm that copies of Microsoft’s next-generation Windows operating system have leaked to company outsiders. It’s not yet clear whether Ivan Zukonov (Zukona) plans to leak the copy of Windows 8 in his possession. Zukona has previously posted accurate screenshots of Internet Explorer 9, Windows 7 and other Microsoft products.

One interesting part of the screenshot is that Microsoft is listing the copyright date of Windows 8 as the year 2012. Some believe the software giant will release Windows 8 in 2013, I disagree however. Microsoft demonstrated build 6.2.7867.0.winmain_win8m1.101020-1800 at CES. The build was compiled in October 2010 and represents Microsoft’s early milestone 1 work. The software giant is currently midway through its milestone 2 cycle and the latest known build is 6.2.7917.0.winmain_win8m2.110125-1757. Microsoft is expected to announce a public beta of Windows 8 later this year.

There are multiple reasons. One of the main ones (I'm guessing) is that there haven't been enough builds distributed and he would blow his source from within MS. He also has had IE9 for some time now and has chosen not to leak it. Unfortunately not everything leaks

I believe there are number of people testing win 8 currently and even if it is leaked, no one can guess who leaked it....
OR does it have any special Tags/ secret codes inside testing builds which can help indentify who leaked it????

Well there is a build per day that is compiled, I'm sure MS know's who's responsible for testing which build each day. True, there are many people actively testing it, but I'm sure that MS has a lot of those people under close guard. Once MS starts a broader testing bed (VIP's, OEM's, large software companies, etc.) then I think we'll have a leak.

Pre-Release movies to critics have digital watermarking that are invisible to the eye. Weather they are a UID flickerd on the screen on a certain frame or built into the dvd encryption. Critics have lost their job and credibility due to leaking movies, they were caught by the UID they didnt know existed. I am pretty sure MS would do something very similar line of "commented code" that has a UID for the person who is responsible for that copy.

The leak will come in due time, but all this anxiety makes everything even more exciting ! I start to feel like the good old Longhorn times ! :)

On BetaArchive, canouna confirmed these a fakes. (c)2012 is TOTALLY fake. Plus, it should be 6.2, the kernel version changed remember from CES?

My Computer

These screenshots are from canouna, LOL, so they are real. The kernel was still 6.1 as this is an M1 build, it changed to 6.2 at M2 ;)

Oh, ok. Yeah, giantsteen is wrong though. The leaked images are in fact real. What canouna was doing there was just laughing at anyone who thought the images were fake.

The images posted in this thread have originated from Zuko and passed along by canouna. They're the real deal :)
