Meanwhile with Microsoft betting the farm on Surface , it appears sales are not living up to expectations:

Microsoft’s Surface Tablet Is Said to Fall Short of Predictions

...Yet Surface has failed to connect with consumers. Windows 8 is “awkward” and hasn’t successfully combined the ease of use of a tablet with the capabilities of a PC, Nomura’s Sherlund wrote. Consumers see no need to pay extra for it when cheaper tablets with free software will meet their needs, he said.

Most of that article is pure garbage that tries to combine the RT(which everyone knows has underperformed) and Pro(which has overperformed) figures to be some ominous thing. Microsoft just pulled 400K sales(on a device thats >$1k out the door when you include keyboard that everyone buys), in the first month Surface Pro was out.

Here is a better article for you that isn't a glorified hit piece:

Go back in time and see what these so called experts said about Android, see what Brian White said about Apple, an expert once said that at most the world would need 5 computers.

Don't listen to experts about the fate of the computer industry.

    Stock Price != Cash Reserves

I've heard "experts" (on TV) argue that having a large cash reserve, actually lowers a company's stock price.

    Hi there

Mind you this doesn't surprise me -- recently when in the UK I thought I'd investigate getting an EE 4G mobile phone contract -- wanted to test the 4G system -- and a years contract didn't seem to expensive -- around 360 GBP with a rubbish phone (which I'd swap for an unlocked Belgian one later).

Anyway despite the fact that I'd bought in my lifetime several properties (all with CASH), and had NEVER had a trouble with running Bank accounts I was REFUSED because I failed some Stupid Credit check they operate in the UK -- No reason either so even if the whole thing is wrong some stupid micky mouse organisation like EXPERIAN or whatever can totally HOSE you up and you don't have any recourse either.

I think my problem was that I hadn't GOT credit -- I NEVER use credit cards, direct debits etc -- always pay by cash or Bank debit cards -- Even though I HAD TWO mobile phone accounts -- didn't matter and they wouldn't even take A YEARS advance payment.

I actually did an EXPERIAN check -- and it came back with Details -- No data recorded for this person. The stupid bozo in the phone store probably thought I was using some sort of "Fake Identity".

It's not going to help the economy recover if people rely on some Indian Clark sitting in a sweaty building in Bangalore ticking a few boxes on a credit sheet before they can get Bank or other credit. People have to make PERSONAL decisions and I'm sure paying a YEARS contract UP FRONT would ensure the providers bill was paid - and if the monthly total was in arrears they could always suspend the service -- so what's the risk.

When people manage the economy like this -- no wonder things get hosed up --- what about a youngster starting a new business who has just finished college. If these stupid "Box tickers" had been around when I was a youngster people like Bill Gates or the founders of Google would NEVER have started.

(At least in the US - if you get something from these "credit agencies" that the store doesn't like you can always make some sort of "Side Deals" -- at the PEOPLE (rather than govt) level business still seems to thrive given half a chance).

    Cheers

There was a story yesterday about people receiving bad credit ratings, because they applied for a new credit card (at ridiculously low introductory rates, as seen on TV).
They were penalised just for applying!

I'm not sure where you live, but I guess the country doesn't make a difference in any case.

Governments seem to be an expensive joke in every country.
