Well put HG, it's not that MS is trying to make some people angry, they are trying to stay relevant and give the large mass of average users what they need, while trying to keep it new and visually appealing for them.
The enthusiast and power users are a small part of the world market, we need functionality for productivity but the other 80-90% need something new and 'Cool', they also pay the largest part of the bill.

It will be interesting to see if the rest of us will get an OS we can use in the near future.

MS are doing the opposite. Win8 is what MS thinks MS needs - they think users will put up with it.

If MS is able is able to push through what they want - then not very likely

    I am afraid so.

It would be better if MS could get their act together.

The more players there are, the better it should be for the consumer - in theory.

That was quite a barrage of canon fire. And well deserved. And it's Forbes. But will not help, MS have probably already stopped reading anything in the financial media, out of fear, and to try to uphold the fantasy about all going well. Thanks for posting.

WOW O_O. I had no idea how vast the world of failure is for Windows 8.

Thanks for posting that. I can forward this on to folks who also are seeking info on just how bad Windows 8 is and why it is so bad.

"The situation is much worse on regular PCs, particularly for knowledge workers doing productivity tasks in the office. This used to be Microsoft's core audience, and it has now thrown the old customer base under the bus by designing an operating system that removes a powerful PC's benefits in order to work better on smaller devices."

Sums it up. This where they make their money. They need it on work PCs to justify the real money spinning server and back office services. Without a front end none of it is necessary.

The Modern UI is a toy not a productivity tool. A Surface is somewhere to put your beer glass down on, not a must have tablet ( that's an aspirin for the headache that Metro gives you ).

I think they will have reassess and produce a consumer version based on the Modern UI for those that want to play and a real UI with Metro turned off for productivity. More like the split when business used NT and the consumers had 95.

The Surface will go the way of the Zune.

Somewhere behind the Modern UI is a good OS waiting to get out. That's why I'm still using it just with out ever using an app, a Charm or any other part of the Modern UI unless I really have to.
