Microsoft Sued for Misrepresenting Surface Storage Space

Some are saying that not getting all the advertised space on one system cause it only amounts to about 10% loss should consider that, it doesn't matter how big the loss is. If this is False Advertisement so is 10% loss, you can call it menial, but that doesn't change the fact that it is a Loss, that was advertised you were getting and paid for, but did not.

Doesn't matter if it is 1M or 10G, it's a loss and by this standard False Advertising.

However, I thought that this was already brought to court years ago with Hard Drive advertising. And they deemed it was easier for the public to understand a whole number than a fraction in advertising.

Ok,, you can still argue that you are losing half the space vs 10%, but that doesn't change what I explained above.

He may win this one due to the significance of the space lost to apps and os taking up half the space.

This will be interesting to watch, it sure could change advertising all devices in the future.

In other words, this won't be a trivial case if a court decides to take it seriously and drag all other companies in with it.

If they only go after MS, then there is something seriously wrong.

Is there anything I can sue for? I still l love Window 8, my Surface and someone thinks I am a little above normal - what a great day.
Is that an RT or an x86 ?? The plaintiff apparently bought an RT.
LOL! The "plaintiff"! The "plaintiff" was too cheap to buy a 64Gb unit. The "plaintiff" Is ignorant to the fact that the partition alone takes up space. The "plaintiff" was ignorant that the OS takes up space. The "plaintiff" was ignorant that the Office takes up space. MS is not responsible to teach ignorant people, whether they're lawyers or not.

Why they don't put ; storage 32 GB , 16 gb available , it may sell less but it will fix the problem, but they want to sell more, so they make it look better.

I think you are talking about the difference in the decimal and the binary representation of storage. For the same amount of bytes, the binary number shows 7% less GBs. But that is not less storage space but only a difference how numbers are represented in the different number systems.

Unfortunately people must have been asleep in school when the binary number system was discussed. That's why they get all upset when they see a different number in 'Computer' than on the box.

lol, if it was here in Canada the judge will say one of those 2 things if he bring it to a court :

1- Bring this to small court ( he will not get more than the value he paid plus the court fees refund)
2- Go file a complain for false advertising at the consumer office ( the lawyer will get nothing , MS may have a $ 500 fines if it's the first time)

Don't tell me the guy lost millions with that

In our justice system , no one get rich with stupidity like that. It's not the lawyer the stupid, it's the system he live in. I'm member of a tech forum and I read what business owner's say about been sue all the time in US, you can't make good business if you always in court.

The funny story is that one Canadien lady wanted to sue a disk manufacturer because she did not understand the difference between decimal and binary numbers. I had the hardest time explainng it to her and to keep her out of court.

At least they weren't being sued for design or a similar name.
