What do normal people think of new Windows 8 PCs?

And because they’re a community, they love to leave reviews. It is no accident that every HSN listing for a Windows 8 PC has a Pinterest button alongside the Facebook Like and Tweet This buttons.

So I was particularly eager to read the first reactions to these new devices from, for lack of a better word, normal people.

I think a normal person is one that just wants things to work without huge amounts of input. They also don't always care about new technology like we do. They need advertising campaigns so they know what is the latest technology.

A normal person doesn't make sweeping generalizations about how people use PCs or Windows, regardless if they're a power user or not. They don't make a big fuss over something menial like a Start Screen. They usually go with the flow, and learn new things along the way if those new things pose worthwhile to take advantage of, which Windows 8 is like a minefield of.

At least you make normal sound good, keep it up and more people will want to be one.

I think 'normal people' might be looking at alternatives. Plain Linux is too complicated, Apple is too expensive - but Android might be the winner. A nice tablet with a keyboard may be all they need for mail, social networks, skype and their photo collection. And prices start at $200 (for a decent tab) - add accessories.

I just got a Nexus 7 with 32GB for $230 (Office Depot black Friday price). It is amazing what that little thing can do right out of the box.

Well, I'm very new here having just installed 8 a few days ago. I quickly found this is the premier Win 8 site and have been poking around for tips and tricks, which are plentiful.

Back to the subject at hand - I am no where near the skill caliber of most members here so that might make more "normal" if you get my gist. I absolutely LOVE Windows 8. Prior to trying it I was highly skeptical having read more than one trashing of it. I cannot tell you how pleased I am that I decided to find out for myself.

The turning point for me was installing StartIsBack to get the beloved Start Menu back and booting directly to the desktop. I think this is the greatest obstacle to the universal acceptance of Win 8. Imagine it without the Metro and I bet you would like it a lot more.

So much for my bloviating, thanks for letting me hang out here.
