October 26: It's the day Windows 8 and Windows RT tablets and PCs are available for retail purchase. It's also the day that a number of Microsoft-developed apps for the new platforms are downloadable in final form.

The new, free Windows 8/Windows RT Lync and OneNote apps are available in the Windows Store as of today.

Saw "One Note" when I was going through the store last night, and though it came with my MS Office 2010 I never give it a second look. Now here is the question: What can it be used for, and is it an app that would be useful for daily use?

Thanks for any information. . .:)

Outside of Outlook it is the Office application I use most, I use it to create various notebooks some of which sync to my Skydrive and access on my Windows Phone with Mobile One Note. If you run the application there is some instruction on how it can be used even on the One Note MX version.

Im a bit like you I don't use it much, but I hang around quite a few forums, it is insanely popular, especially among students and professionals. Even most iPad users use it for studies etc, I think it must be one of the most used apps around.

I use it to keep track of things, it's a very easy way to, well, take notes.

The Lync App works well with our Lync 2010 setup at work, i wouldn't use it as a replacement to the Desktop version but on an RT device it's a great addition.

Lee, I'm a writer and it's the most invaluable program I've ever used in my life. I keep everything on it - words, audio, video. There is nothing I've found that tops it. My wife works in the corporate world and uses it to keep track of all her projects. She's showed her co-workers what it's capable of and has spread it around there. In fact, she was the one who told me about it when I was frustrated I couldn't find anything to organize all my material.

I've said this before, but I would give Bill Gates a big wet kiss on the mouth for OneNote.
