If These 5 People Who Tried Windows 8 Are Normal...

If These 5 People Who Tried Windows 8 Are Normal, Microsoft Has A Big Problem On Its Hands

Microsoft is launching its new operating system, Windows 8, this week.

Windows 8 is a radical departure for anyone who has used Windows in the past two decades. The new interface is designed primarily for touch-screens. And based on some anecdotal responses from those who have tried it--professional reviewers and normal people alike--it's not exactly love at first sight.

SAI's Matt Rosoff reviewed a preview version of Windows 8 a couple of months ago. He found it "needlessly confusing and hard to use."

The AP said the new OS interface "baffles" consumers.

The New York Times's David Gallagher invited 5 people to try Windows 8 and filmed them while they did so. One of the five people seemed to like the look of the design ("Awesome," "This is so cool,"). But figuring out how to actually go about doing things seemed to confuse the hell out of everyone--including the person who liked the design.

I find myself explaining things to the 10 year olds when I fix peoples TV's. If the parent objects, I explain that they are there at least another 8 years, and they may as well take advantage

It definitely says something when a three year old kid can use Windows 8 without much issue, but an old timer Windows user will have difficulty with it....

It says that kids are used to simple devices, and have experiences with phones and tablets. Just because a child could use Windows 8 doesn't mean that functionally speaking it's great for all purposes, people and tasks. My kids needs of a computer are not very advanced at all, and for them, the full screen metro apps suit those needs well.

With this said, my 5 year old can logon to Windows (vista or 7), can access YouTube and Angry birds through the browser bookmark bar. He has no issues recording a video on my Android tablet or phone, or my wife's previous iPhone and actually upload it to YouTube. He has played and beaten Mario Galaxy, Mario Galaxy 2, and Super Mario Bros Wii on the Wii, as well as Super Mario Bros on the Nintendo DS. He has absolutely no problems using a touchscreen device, a trackpad, a standard mouse or a trackball. Kids are really advanced these days versus when I was a kid.

That has nothing to do with it, I doubt that this 3 yr old just started using Windows 8 and figured it out on his own. However, he was shown how to use it and he can. The article above is the usual BS drop a Windows 8 computer in front of someone and say "USE IT". As I said for that other kid who did the same on the streets with his laptop, take 5 mins to show the basics of Windows 8 functionality and no user would struggle with it.

And that's not the point, but thank you for continuing to ignore the greater issue of why people aren't clamoring for 8.
