Microsoft already updating Office RT Preview to final version

Anyone buying a Windows RT tablet—including Microsoft's own Surface tablet—won't have to wait long to get their hands on the final version of Office 2013. Microsoft has already started delivering the update via Windows Update, meaning that it'll be available on October 26th, at least to English-speaking users.

    Hi there
I'll stick my neck out here

An office suite on a tablet IMO is doomed to failure unless you have some sort of decent keyboard / mouse / pen -- which then what have we got -- yes effectively a "A PC "!!!!!).

Why on earth should I pay MORE for a device that has less functionality than a decent small ultra type of PC and isn't much larger, thicker or heavier than a typical newer tablet -- and what's more you could probably buy TWO of these for the same price as a tablet.

Coupled with LAN connectivity USB ports with therefore the ability to have almost infinite storage, decent processing power and decent printing capabilities why would I even THINK of getting a tablet far less using one.

A small 2TB self powered USB3 (y'ep there available now about 3 times the size of a credit card) which should have more than enough storage for even the most avid movie watcher is really fast and will blow any tablet away.

Smart phones for me offer anything I might conceivably use a tablet for -- for other things particularly like complex EXCEL or presentations give ma a proper computer any day.

Conceivably a tablet could be useful for taking notes -- but my smartphone can do this just fine anyway so even that application isn't "The killer app" that could have made these wretched micky mouse devices possibly useful.

I don't think RT apps have any sensible size future -- Ms missed the boat here -- even the "mighty Fruit company" is struggling in working out what its next revenue stream will be -- once they've stopped playing about in Court and got back to real Engineering again.

come to that I suspect that as phones get "smarter" with decent screen sizes -- like the Samsung Galaxy IIIs the need for tablets will die away in any case -- and pass into the annals of history.

    Cheers

I have to agree with some of what you said. As far as the Surface RT goes or any Windows RT tablet devices goes, I just don't see any advantage to buying one over a similarly priced laptop, or netbook. Not for me anyway. I could however buy into an 8 Pro device if the price was right. A hybrid with a keyboard dock would suit me just fine. When I say keyboard I mean a real laptop like keyboard, not one of those rubber want to be's.
