Windows 8 Tablets: The most successful tablets ever.

Are you going to buy a Windows 8 tablet or smart phone? It will be interesting to see who bites first on the coming wave, you or your employer.

Soon, you and users around the world will be able to purchase your very own Windows 8 Tablet computers. Though I haven't been lucky enough to review one yet, I feel as if they'll take the market by storm for one single reason alone: Windows 8. Tablets have been around for years. Windows has been around for years. Windows tablets have been around for years. So, what's so special about Windows tablets now? The answer is simply, Windows 8.

    Thanks, Shawn.

Finally! A writer that lives in a positive reality! He brings up some good, well defined points. Stuff your Apple with those......

Yes it is nice to see a positive review. Unlike the authors experience with his iPad, I'm not familiar with too many people who actually bought an iPad and considered it a mistake. I personally don't like them, but everybody that I know who owns one raves about it. So, it will be interesting to see whether these same folks are drawn in any way to a Microsoft based tablet.

I have to admit that when I saw the title of this thread my first reaction was "what????????"

Then, lest I rush into judgement here I took the time to read the article. To my surprise I found it very interesting and full of some very powerful points in favor of the Windows 8 tablet. I think the most convincing argument the author made is the one about support. (I'll leave it to folks to read the article for themselves.)

I'm still not going to rush out and buy a Windows 8 tablet but perhaps now I would put it at the top of my list if I ever decide to buy a tablet. That's pretty interesting considering that I've thought about tablet devices recently, and never included a Windows 8 tablet among the possibilities.

I'm a bit torn on the support issue. It seems that with smartphones and such, people "want" to upgrade the hardware as soon as they can to get new features. Unsure that if the price of tablets falls into the realm of things that people want to last 10 years, or if they are satisfied with 2 years or so and then replace.

Windows 8 is miserable on non-touch devices, and PCs and laptops aren't going to drive Surface sales. They're going to hurt them. Apple is going to blow out the holiday season again, continue to make inroads in business and government, and Microsoft will fall short of the author's expectations. I've been saying that for months, and I believe it even more strongly now.

Also, having never used a tablet, ... it is a question. I haven't seen a great deal of specification details online. Do tablets have more than one usb connector? I suppose a hub could be connected. Ok with external storage? Is there enough system memory? Is the CPU too slow? A tablet computer with 64 or 128 GB SSD would be very nice. Can it handle HD streaming video if connected to a broadband modem? What are the specifications or graphics features on a tablet? Can they replace a laptop? Maybe a touch screen tablet like the Surface Pro, Lenovo, Acer or Vaio might be a longer lasting device than a throw away phone. I like a mouse and keyboard. So, touch is interesting and useful, but my preference is still to use a mouse. (... Mouse and Keyboard do an excellent job of being effective and efficient in Windows 8 ...) In any event, if one is thinking about spending around $800 US and more, desktop PC's still rule with 8 or 16 GB system memory, quad core and more, high performance graphics, upgradeability. If you need a mobile computer, the sky is the limit.
    (... and the battery)

A random thought. The ipad is literally nothing more than a 10 inch screen ipod touch, kind of like a ipod for older people.

But hold on, what makes him think that the RAM and storage space he has on his Windows tablet will be suitable for the next version of Windows when it's released in 3 years time? If it isn't, he's still in the same position as he is with the iPad because the upgrade options will likely be limited.

Considering a laptop from the year of early 2008 can run Windows 8 eloquently says it all.
