Windows 8 Will Bring Turbulent Times to Mobile Device Market in 2013

NEWS ANALYSIS: With just two weeks until the launch of Windows 8, the Surface tablet and other devices Oct. 26, enterprises face a host of difficult decisions about what devices and operating systems to support in their organization given pricing and compatibility issues with the various new offerings.

The expression “May you live in interesting times,” can be a Chinese proverb or a Chinese curse, depending on your perspective and the launch of Windows 8 and its potential impact in the world of Android and iOS is expected bring interesting times to enterprises in 2013.

"But the new Windows RT devices unveiled so far tend to be a little pricey. The Lenovo lineup introduced Oct. 9 includes the top-of-the-line IdeaTab Lynx with a starting price of $1,100. Dell introduced an XPS 12 convertible priced at $1,200 and Acer offers a series of models ranging in price from $800 to $1,000."

    FUD..FUD..and more FUD.

Enterprises won't be confused, the author is confused. Neither the IdeaTab Lynx or the XPS 12 Convertible are Windows RT tablets, they are both Windows 8 tablet\hybrids. The IdeaPad Lynx has an atom processor WITH full Windows 8 and it is $600 with an optional keyboard that doubles the battery life to 16 hours for $150 more, not $1100. The XPS 12 is basically an ultrabook hybrid and well spec'd for the $1200 having IveBridge options but converts to a tablet. As for Acer...who cares...Enterprise won't touch those.

I'm pretty sure that Enterprise IT will be more than well educated on the correct specifications and pricing when it comes time to decide on their devices.
