So I take it there are no full retail versions? I think I need to contact PC World, they told me they were selling full retail and not upgrade editions. Looks like I need to cancel my order.

Yeah that's what has got me worried. When I placed the order the product description was completely different to that. when I contacted PC World they told me it was full not upgrade. Then after placing my order the description vanished and now the new one with the upgrade edition has appeared.

From what I can tell there doesn't seem to be a "full" version available. Only upgrade (no good to me because I just gave my Windows 7 to my brother) or the system builder version (again no good because I want to be able to migrate it to a new machine when the time comes).

It seems Microsoft don't want people to build their own machines and move their licences from one to the other. If I buy the system builder disk it's then tied to my hardware, and if I build a new machine one year down the line I cant transfer it, which means I have to buy another system builder version again :(

I am getting a bit miffed at this, why are they making it harder for people like me? I now feel like totally giving W8 a miss and going back to W7. I was going to buy two versions of W8 but if I cant get my hands on a "full" retail product then they cant have my money!

That's pretty clear, then.

I think the full version is the same as the system builder version.

No confirmed price that I have seen - didn't you pay £69.99 for your order Burtie?

I can't recall but you mentioned it a while back.

Still confusion on the OEM/System Builder version. In this article from Ed Bot there are two license agreements for this version. One is for OEM vendors and the other is for Personal Use which does allow you to transfer it to another PC.

Hopefully Microsoft will clear this up soon.

Maybe. That is Ed Bott's interpretation of the Personal Use License agreement and I hope he is correct. I searched for the new agreements for Windows 8 but can't fine anything. I hope Microsoft will clarify this.

Still not clear if the £49.99 burtie paid will be the full ( system builder) or the upgrade.

It seems cheap for the full - I would guess it will be more like £99 , unless MS do a fire sale on that as well.

Confusion reigns.

From looking at the retailers and the US MS store it's likely the upgrade.

The price from the link in the first post is U$10 more than the US store but the "Starting October 26th, you'll also have the option to download it for £24.99" is the same as the US price when converted.

OEM builder packs are $100 and $140 at the newegg sale.

There is a personal use license included in the OEM System Builder Channel software, according to Ed Bott, you can move it on different system that you own, as long as it's only on one system at a time.

This probably should be verified.
