ESXi 5.0 - do I need to update to ESXi 5.1?

I don't have W8 as a dropdown on my ESXi menu and I'm getting a lot of bugs and issues to the point that I can't even install the RP as a VM.

Seems that everyone is able to run W8 on some flavor of a free hypervisor but I'm striking out finding info on ESXi. I've been able to get it working on earlier versions (CP and DP) but I don't want to go through the effort again for the RP.

Is there an easy fix or tutorial that I'm missing?

I have been running Windows 8 on ESXi 4.1 without problem. It won't show in the dropdown, but I just pick Windows 7 64bit as it's the next closest thing. You shouldn't need to be on 5.1 to run it.

Hello, I'm having problems with a certain update (KB2990967) that keeps showing up in as I check for updates in windows update. Is sucessfully intalled but as I check for updates again, it shows up (even after a reboot). Unfortunally I'm not receiving anymore updates other than that one. ...
Hi there. I LIKE the idea of a bare metal Hypervisor - I've tried Esxi (VMware) in the past and although it works it's a bit fiddly on what hardware it works on and there's no CLI for managing VM's --you have to do this with a separate machine using vCenter which USED TO BE FREE -- and now this...

I've got it working - still quite buggy and getting LOTS of errors, etc. but 100% working. 65 VMs that I'm doing load testing, migrations & failover testing. The only thing I can't do (yet) is Volume License and activation/deactivation type testing because this W8 is self-activating. How I...
Hi there Having got the vm to work on a W7 Host machine I thought of trying it out on Esxi -- I have a few VM's running on vmware's Esxi which I run on a fairly modest "White Box". Direct install of the vm using vSphere fails but using the stand alone vmware converter to convert the vm I got...
