Win8 RP ask for drivers at install

    Hi,
I'm starting to get crazy about this so I'm asking for help.
I'm trying to install win8 RP x64 on VMWare Player 5 (but also tried workstation 8 and the last version of oracle virtualbox) but each time it ask for drivers that are supposedly missing...
as images are whorst a thousand words her i go:

    VM configuration:
    1st windows installer wizard page:
    2nd windows installer wizard page:
    windows installer starting page:
windows installer asking for drivers wizard page:

So what now, I've tried to install Intel chipset drivers (those have done the tricks last time i had this kind of error on vmware) but none of the drivers seem do work.
I've set the USB controller to USB 2.0 (read some stuff about USB 3.0 problems)
tried SCSI HDD instead of IDE with VMWare SCSI drivers same thing no hardware detected
and of course I've tried Fr x64, Fr x32, ENG x64, ENG x32 ISOs from Microsoft and everytime I got the same issue...
If anybody got an idea, please

Hi and welcome to the forums.

I'm using the same version here.
That's really something I've never encountered before on VMware Player 5.

You should try with standard settings as it doesn't give any missing drivers here:
    More precisely:
-SCSI HDD (recommended on VMware) instead of IDE (I guess this is the main suspect here)
-USB removed or set to 2.0 (just in case, but it can be changed after the install also)
-virtualisation engine should be set to automatic to improve performance (can also be changed after install, but this one is not that important now)

-the ram settings look good (all works from > 1024mb to begin with)
-cd-rom looks good, this one is an IDE alright

You can also remove the floppy or other unnecessary hardware, the fewer you get during install, the less chance you get an unknown driver error. But in your screenshot it looks a bit weird and that's why I recommend to test the standard settings (make a new machine and see if it works without changes => If the install succeeds, add the needed hardware changes afterwards).

    Good luck with the install.

    Thanks Hopachi,
I've cleaned up the VM from unworthy options but same thing happen...
i realised maybe i shloud investigate which driver is ask. so Instead of booting win8 I booted win7, at this point everything worked like a charm... so I follow the install for a few clicks, HDD was ok, so I formated it, then I rebooted with win8 iso and of course same thing still happened: I'm ask for a drivers but now that the HDD is partitionned and formatted I can see it :

So windows is obviously not asking me for SCSI driver (as It wouldn't be able to see the HDD if it hadn't loaded SCSI drivers already)
    so I removed almost every hardware from the VM, USB controler, network interface, sound card;
andit keeps asking me for some drivers...
    I just can't see what's wrong here.

This is very unusual, the virtual hardware should be the same on all pc's with that version of VMware Player.

I don't have any French iso's to confirm the missing drivers (what version is that?) but I'm gonna see if I can reproduce your results on my machine.

Edit: nope, the install detects a HDD: drive 0 60GB unallocated, using manual install (see next post) standard size of VMware settings, where the install can continue. No driver issues.
This is using an english Win8 x64 Enterprise.

    Hmmm...
Have you tried both automatic install and manual so far?

    Manual install:

Manual install works with all the operating systems and it doesn't automatically detect the OS, ask for a key or install tools. I usually use this mode (ideal for testing) and the install always succeeded with all the tested oses.

You'll have to choose the Operating System (in this case Windows 8 x64) and provide the iso to the virtual cdrom drive.
Then set the hardware again if needed.

Sorry if you already tried this mode and also didn't worked.

    you mentioned:
but also tried workstation 8 and the last version of oracle virtualbox
Even VirtualBox failed... Was it the same result?

Version 4.2, at the moment of writing this, in RC4 state is the recommended version for Win8 VM's.
    (Index of /virtualbox/4.2.0_RC4/)
Don't know if you tested this one (or any of the 4.2 branch) but is recommended for Win8 guests.

Normally the french iso should work ok in a VM, but as I said, I didn't tested that.

I'm out of ideas for now.

    Thanks for trying Hopachi,
    I'm also out of idea...
for your questions, yes it is the same issue with workstation and virtualbox, and still the same issue with other language ISOs (I have try English iso in 32 and 64 bits) and still the same issue on 2 differents PC (although those PC have same CPU -AMD X6- but a whole different set up on other parts).
I've also tried manual and auto install and also I've tried selecting "other x64" but I've encouter the same issue again...
I'm redownloading the ENG x64 ISO and I'll try it tomorrow.

    Thanks again for your insights.

OK, so i've a solution, this is kinda tricky though:
I've prepared the VM for windows 7 x64 and i loaded win7 media, I've started the install, run the drive detection and préparation thus formatting the drive in NTSF and then I clicked on next (instead of rebooting as I had already tested that). I've let windows install copy a few files and then I've rebooted (File copy was stopped at 1%)
then i've loaded win8 iso and started the install, at that point, my hopes were very low but still i tried, and it worked! instead of prompting me the usual no driver found message, it was telling that the NTFS partition was not usable as is by win8 so I needed to format it.
I gave it a go and the normal install process followed.

I really don't know what is happening here and since it seem that I am the only one here to have encountered this issue I won't be looking too deep in this matter.

but just for a reminder this error occurs to me on 2 computers, with all win 8 ISO (RP x32 FR, RP x64 FR, RP x32 ENG, RP x64 ENG and RTM x64 ENG -from technet-) and with multiple VM software (VMware player 4 & 5, workstation 8 and virtualbox 4.1.2.

Yes some weird things occured there, but the important thing is that you got it working. Nice to hear that.

    Note:
After the install don't forget to check and see if Windows 8 x64 is selected here:
(here in lower right: in case it's set to something else than the OS real name)

I've messed this up in the past using an older install of Win8 from Player 4.0.4, the settings were set to Win7 and the WEI score was low and noticed older drivers (average 4.0 score). With Win8 settings, I've reinstalled the additions and retested again with better results (average 5.5 score).

    Cheers
