I never call you noob, I said the guy who tell you ( or write somewhere) that was impossible was a noob , because you said that you read someplace it was impossible. As for make it work the most simple way is to use 2 nics , 1 for the VM and 1 for the Host. Hyper-V virtual network is so more simple to configure than any OS hosted solution , VMware is very much more confusing.

I always recommend Vmware Workstation , but it's $ 200, a little bit expensive to run only XP, but if someone want to go in serious VM stuff. I agree that Hyper-v is best on server, that what I do.

this is my VM lab as it was last year, I add 4 new servers ( will take a pic one day ) The supermicro is use a SAN

For those who are interested, there is VMWare Player that is free. It support DirectX, OpenGL... You can create et use your VM with this software.

So I guess it is a while since Microsoft cared about the XP license either.

wait a minute, this was not working if you install Windows XP on a pC, this was working only with the VM version and only on servers not on Windows 7 PC
    Hi there
If you have a PHYSICAL computer running XP you can by using free utilities CREATE A VIRTUAL MACHINE from the REAL OS (known as P2V or Physical to Virtual).

This is a fairly simple process since the "Virtual Hardware" is much simpler than the "Real Hardware".

Your only problem is that if your XP was an OEM install it might not activate.

If it was a RETAIL install just tell ms by ACTIVATING BY PHONE that you've moved the XP to a new machine --don't mention Virtual machine-- and say you HAVE to have it because you need to run older legacy hardware and applications.

That IMO is the easiest method rather than installing from scratch -- the P2V machine will also include your applications as well.

You can do this for W7 / W8 as well if you need to create Virtual machines for these OS'es too.

Note if you use VBOX you MUST install vm additions orif using VMware install vmtools -- these utilities improve graphic, sound , usb and various other drivers.

OK, I was fooling around with IE 10 and at some point it got into a state where it only starts in desktop mode. I followed some directions for how to select the mode, but my mode choice is greyed out for some reason. Any idea why?
