I have installed windows 8 via VMware so i do not completely mess up my windows 7 computer. It installed, but the internet never works and the sound doesn'tI ran a diagnostic to fixing the problem. The audio is muted and the internet has an X beside it.
When i hover over the audio icon, i get this message. "No audio output device is installed" When I hover over the internet connection, i get this message. "No internet connections available" I tried everything to get the internet to work. I bridged my internet access to the host computer (Windows 7), and tried LAN, and host only. Nothing worked. When i checked Bridged, i checked the check box "Replicate physical network connection state" When just checking bridged failed.
So i tried re installing Windows 8 and I gave the installation drive 100 GB because i thought it didn't have enough space to install the drivers. Turns out that didn't work either.
I did not install Windows 8 Consumer Preview. I just installed Windows 8 release preview because I could not find the consumer preview download. And release preview takes a lot less time to download the iso.
I am running x64 bit Windows 7 Ultimate.
I have Windows XP Mode and the internet works completely fine on that virtual machine. The internet on my windows 7 computer is completely fine also.
So here is the information:
Host Operating System (My Main Operating System) : Windows 7 x64 Ultimate Operating System I Am Attempting To Run: Windows 8 Release Preview - Evaluation Copy - Build 8400 Program I Am Attempting To Run Windows 8 Release Preview On: VMware (I have already tried virtualbox and windows crashes for no reason) Date downloaded: 6/10/2012 Downloaded version: Windows 8 Release Preview - English Version (x64)
Did you already install the VMware Tools from step 17 on in the tutorial below? This will be required to be installed before you will be able to share resources on the host.

Okay, so i followed your instructions, and my sound surprisingly fixed. But in the middle of the installation of the drivers, My screen turns black. The screen then turns blue, and back to black. My mouse disappears and reappears as a loading cursor, then repeats. Is this supposed to happen?
It may just be connecting and installing devices from the host. If this doesn't stop after a bit, then shut down and restart the VM to see if this continues. Does your VM have a network connection now as well?
Alright, so i followed one of the administrators tips to install windows 8.
Successfully, I got all of the drivers to work, except for the dreaded wireless connection error.
I tried going to PC Settings, but there was no option to turn on wireless. I seriously need help. Can somebody please help me?
I am using VMware to use Windows 8.
Update: I ran Windows Network Diagnostics and I got this message. Windows did not detect a properly installed network adapter. If you have a network adapter, you will need to re-install the driver. The problem is, I have no idea where my network adapter is, or even if I have one. Can someone please help me to reinstall the driver or fix the problem another way?
Thanks.
Not all the Win8 specs are needed just the network part.
If you have internet on your host (win7) then you only need to select or enable a proper ethernet controller the list in VMware, then start up the VM and see if it installs.
VMware needs access from your firewall as well (normally it should be allowed by default but it depends what AV/ firewall you have configured).
A screenshot from VMware Player:
This should be ok. If you want a bridged adapter instead of NAT, it should also work.
Somewhere in the details section, there should be choice between some adapters (the default one from the Win7 installation settings should work fine).
