Hi there
in W8 CP if you right mouse click on an .ISO file and select the MOUNT option -- works fine.

in W8 RP if you do the same the ISO is mounted but you get this error thrown up.

(This is on a computer that has a physical built in DVD device. My other machine where I'm testing as well doesn't have a physical DVD device and the mount works fine).

The image DOES actually mount however.

I hope THIS feature remains in W8 it's useful.

screen shot of error message

cheers

I've seen this but it is not consistent. Usually .iso and .vhd images mount fine with RP. I wish .wim files would natively mount too.

Odd glitches like this often disappear with a reboot. One of the features of software still bearing debug code, perhaps.

I've just had an episode with RP with the top window remaining over pop-up menus from the taskbar toolbars, date, desktop properties pop-up etc - even though I cannot see the menu choices they are active and override the controls of the visible application window in the foreground - one reboot and the phenomenon disappears.

I was completely missing the mount option until I uninstalled Roxio Easy Media Creator 2012. And before everyone screams, yes I know Roxio sucks. I had so I tried it, it works fine in Windows 7 and I use it there. Anyway Jimbo if you have any other burning software installed maybe its causing a conflict.

WinCDEmu > Roxio. , Sigh how did I know somebody was going to do that. For mounting images maybe, but Roxio does a lot more than that. Also Windows 8 does it natively so I don't really need it. My beef with Roxio is that's its all or nothing during the install. I don't need or want Back on Track, or its virtual drive, but you don't get a choice and you can't un-install those items separately. I burn a lot of multi-session disks and Roxio does that very well. If it didn't lock my system up in Windows 8 I'd still be using it.

I'm not looking for alternatives at the moment, thanks anyway. I'll worry about it when Windows 8 goes final. Even then, unless things change, I won't be running 8 unless I buy a Windows Tablet which probably won't have an optical drive anyway. I'm dual booting with Windows 7 so if I need to burn a disk I'll just boot up to that.

Hi there
my main use for mounting ISO's is that on my 1 TB external usb drive I have ISO copies of ZILLIONS of DVD movies. I just mount the iso and play the dvd with VLC. Travelling a lot on Eurostar between Brussels / London and planes between glasgow and Iceland it's nice to watch movies on a small laptop that doesn't have a physical DVD drive without having to carry loads of DVD's around.

I use AnyDVD by slysoft to extract the DVD image to ISO on another computer.

I also archive any iso install dvd / cd's as well .

Since I can also watch DVD's on a home large lcd TV via media streaming - I never bother with the actual physical media any more -- after extraction to ISO and archiving I simply give away the original DVD.

My final project is scanning all my old CD labels -- I've long since ripped all my cd's to flac -- once I've scanned the labels I'll give away the entire collection as well -- around 2,000 so you can see how much physical space I can save.

The point of this is to say that physical media such as DVD's will be obsolete very soon -- all this stuff can be stored on external disks, or server disks or even "the cloud". Why Burn stuff to DVD any more.

Cheers
jimbo

I hardly burn any disks these days. I used to backup my game disks but almost all of those have copy protection built into them. I also used to burn driver disks etc, for my various PC's. Its all on thumb drives now. I didn't even bother putting an optical drive in this build. I have an external DVD burner. I can see where the mount option could be quit handy on a tablet or other device that doesn't have an optical drive in it. Now that I know its there I'll probably use it more.

I am running into the exact same problem. First time I had Slysoft Virtual Clonedrive install. Unistalling the program did not fix. I then rebuilt the PC and problem was gone. No the problem is back, and I have VERY few Apps presently installed.
